The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University is an interdisciplinary School that aims to be a world leader in environmental research focusing on environmental challenges in Asia. ASE integrates earth and environmental life science, ecology, engineering and technology, human ecology, humanities, and the social sciences to address key issues of the environment and sustainability.
The research laboratory on Resilient and Inclusive cities at ASE addresses important challenges related to rapid urbanization and climate change in Asia-Pacific. It focuses on understanding and modelling the benefits of nature-based solutions – e.g. urban parks or peri-urban forests, road trees, green roofs – in the region to inform policy and practice, and create more resilient and inclusive cities. The research uses an interdisciplinary lens, combining geospatial modeling of urban environments and empirical studies of urban practice.
The laboratory is currently looking for a Research Assistant to support the assessment of nature futures in new cities in Southeast Asia. The successful candidate will lead the analysis of nature values for a dataset of Southeast Asian cities.
Key requirements and competencies:
- BSc in Landscape & Urban planning, Geography, Environmental Sciences or equivalent
- Experience in urban or regional planning in Southeast Asia
- Strong interest or experience in nature-based solutions in urban environments
- Great attention to details
- Experience in managing large datasets (e.g. Excel, databases or other tool) is an advantageous
- Strong proficiency in GIS software and geospatial modelling software is preferred
