Job Title: Bike Recovery Driver
Location: Clapham depot
Contract Type: Permanent, Full time
Working Hours: 12-hour shifts, 4 on, 4 off (6.30am – 18.30pm, approx) will include weekend work
Salary: £27,352 per annum + Excellent benefits
London Cycle Hire, or Santander Cycles, is the largest cycle hire scheme in the UK and regularly records over 1 million hires a month. The Scheme is available 24/7, 365 days a year. We operate more than 12,300 bikes, 2,000 eBikes and over 800 bike docking stations across London. We help Londoners get around quickly and easily in the most environmentally friendly way possible. The scheme recently expanded to Southwest London so now you can saddle up anywhere from Shepherds Bush to Canary Wharf and Wandsworth Town to Camden Town.
As a Bike Recovery Driver, you will be responsible for tracking down and recovering lost and stolen bikes and returning them to docking stations or to our workshops for repair.
You will drive a company issued van around the London area (sometimes this may extend outside of London), track lost or stolen bikes to their locations, request that members of the public return the bikes or issue letters from the Police and Transport for London to residences and buildings where our bikes are being illegally stored, and be given full training on the use of tools such as bolt cutters, angle grinders and grapple hooks to help you rescue the bikes. You may be pulling bikes from canals or requesting they are returned from people’s houses or places of work and as such you must be able to handle confrontation in a way that does not escalate the situation and remain courteous and professional at all times.
You will receive a £10 incentive payment for each bike collected beyond the eighth one each day.
You will be the public face of Serco’s London Cycle Hire team in the community, representing the business in a positive way and interacting with members of the public in a friendly and approachable manner, and directly contributing to the reduction in asset loss and profit loss. This role is vital to the ongoing success of the contract.
As part of your training for this role, Serco will commit to providing role specific training and Conflict Avoidance training, both of which can support you in your career moving forward.
What do I need to do the role?
This is a role that is vital to the success of the Cycle Hire Scheme, and we are looking for candidates that are self-motivated, take great pride in their work and are committed to being the best ambassadors for the Cycle Hire Service.
We expect the very highest level of customer service to be provided by our staff in all circumstances and welcome applications from those with experience of successfully handling and de-escalating potential conflict in a calm, polite manner.
Holding a driving license is required for this role, so please make sure this is visible on your CV when applying.
Previous experience of working within the Micromobilty sector is not essential as we will provide any additional training you may need.
Please note, this position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
