Location: Tennessee Hatchery, Lafayette, TN
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday
Hours: Shift begins at 4:00am until the job is complete. Typically this position averages 40 hours per week and includes working holidays. Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.
Position Summary:
- This position is responsible for making sure the services requested by the customers are met. Maintains accurate inventories on supplies needed to service day-old chickens to fulfill customers’ expectations. Will keep up with by product vaccine inventory. Keeps by-product lab clean and organized to comply with sanitation monitoring protocol. Will assist with day one processing and mixing vaccines when needed. Stay until processing department is finished. Manager approval to leave early if processing department isn’t finished.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience: 6 months related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Data entry skills and Excel experience preferred. Must be able to read, write and have simple math skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process chickens including: grade, vaccinate, beak trim (operate robot), dub males, despur males and perform toe trim. (20%)
- Weight and check chick quality for each house. (20%)
- Check chick quality according to percentage of total number of boxes. (20%)
- Check for improper injections. (20%)
- Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. Such as: Operate gas box, cut vitamin gel, operate Coccivac machine, maintain a clean an organized work area. (10%)
Other duties, responsibilities and activities
- These may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as: verify orders on the board for daily processing, enter data for hatchery monitoring of chick weights and breakout data, assist processing crew when needed, properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy, occasionally operate a high pressure and regular water hose, maintain a clean and organized work area. (10%)
Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements/Safety
- The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift/stack boxes of chicks weighing up to 15-17 pounds. Must regularly push/pull a stack of 10 boxes of chicks on a wheeled dolly weighing up to approximately 150-170 pounds. Must be able to bend to pick up boxes. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. Must have good communication skills to accurately convey opinions and concerns.
- Tools and Equipment: Snippers, scale, rectal thermometer
- Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
- Personal Protective Equipment Required: Ear plugs will be used as needed. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed. When using chemicals this position will be required to use: safety goggle, chemical gloves, waterproof apron and rubber boots. Safety glasses are required.
- Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants.
- Safety: Will be trained to recognize and comply with all safety policies. Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include, but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
