Level 1 Trauma center with twenty-four OR rooms are used to perform the following types of surgeries: Orthopedic, Urologic, Gynecological, General, Neurological/Spine, ENT, Hepatobiliary, Plastic Reconstructive and Cosmetic, Podiatry, GYN Oncology, Thoracic, Cardiovascular, Vascular, Bariatric Hand Reconstruction, and Robotic (General, GYN, Colorectal, Urology, CV/CT, Ortho, Bariatric)
Surgical Center of Excellence in Hernia, Robotic, Colorectal, Minimally Invasive GYN and Minimally Invasive Surgery.
Job Summary
An allied health staff member who is responsible for assisting anesthesia providers during direct patient care activities and all assigned duties to ensure supplies and certain designated equipment are available and functional. This position will support licensed staff who are providing care to patients in the neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups. Will function under the direct supervision of professional registered nurse or anesthesia provider.

Preferred Experience: Graduated from an accredited anesthesia technician program or one (1) year of continuous experience as anesthesia technician in an acute care setting.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Ensures anesthesia carts and supply cabinets in assigned OR suites are stocked in accordance with established par levels.
Coordinates equipment and supply needs for Anesthesia Dept, maintains inventory at safe levels.
Monitors and records temperature in fluid warming cabinets and refrigerators utilized for storing of fluids utilized by anesthesia providers.
Prepares reusable anesthesia equipment for processing per policy.
Assists with set up of anesthesia machines, external monitoring devices, and various other pieces of procedure equipment utilized by anesthesia providers. Able to trouble shoot basic problems with certain anesthesia equipment and initiate repair process.
Demonstrates safe handling of oxygen and anesthetic gases utilized by the anesthesia provider.
Demonstrates appropriate handling and disposal of sharps.
Demonstrates appropriate cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization processes as required for equipment and supplies utilized by anesthesia providers.
Demonstrates donning of sterile gloves, opening sterile supplies, and set up of sterile procedure trays for anesthesia providers. Able to perform skin preps under the direct supervision of the anesthesia provider.
Assists anesthesia provider with equipment and supplies during induction and emergent procedures.
Sets up arterial lines and blood warmers. May draw arterial sample from arterial line after initial competency assessment by anesthesia provider.
Under the direct supervision of the anesthesia provider able to perform priming of central venous catheters (CVC) and pulmonary artery (PA) catheters prior to insertion, and flushing of CVC and PA catheter inflation. May inflate and deflate balloon under direct supervision and at the instruction of anesthesia provider.
Maintains equipment and supplies on specialty carts utilized by the anesthesia provider.
Assist with patient care duties to include patient transfers, patient transports, application of EKG, blood pressure, pulse oximetry monitors, transport of specimens, and transport of blood products.
Assists with connection of all disposables to the anesthesia machine and performs turnover of equipment and supplies between each surgical procedure.
May assist in administering IV push meds under direct supervision of an anesthesia provider, as well as spike IV fluids/medications to assist with anesthesia preparation.
