The Role:

The Data Team Leader, responsible for leading a small Data Consultancy Team for North America region, based in Mumbai, plays a critical role in championing Morningstar managed investment data capabilities US and Canada markets. You will lead the small team, also spend approximately 80% of your work time as a Data Consultant, to collaborate internally with global data and US & Canada business teams, and externally with managed investment data providers and Morningstar customers, to support Morningstar data and business growth strategies. More specifically, you and all Data Consultants in your team will build relationship with providers to acquire data, partner with client-facing internal stakeholders to demonstrate our data capability and quality in business-conducting activities and return the voice of local market to the global data teams, in order for us to continuously raise our data capability and improve client experience.

As a Team Leader, you are charged with coaching the relatively junior data consultants in your team, enabling and empowering them to effectively handle their work, and growing their job competency. The position will be based in Morningstar Mumbai office, work in US-shift working hours, and report to Head of Managed Investment Data, Americas.

Responsibilities:

• Be part of Americas regional Data Team, lead and develop a small team of data consultants based in Mumbai.

• Align your team to broader objectives of North Americas region, lead your team to define OKRs and execute work plans to deliver expected results, and continuously challenge and improve existing ways of doing business.

• Spend part of your time managing data relationships with US and Canada asset managers, industry associations and third-party administrators. Work with fund companies and providers to set up data acquisition channels, partner with process experts to collect and onboard complex datasets into Morningstar global databases, as well as act as a point of escalation when such data acquisition channels are failing.

• Promote Morningstar managed investment data capability and quality at a local market level to internal client-facing teams and external existing & prospective customers.

• Champion projects focused on enhancing Morningstar managed investment databases in order to meet changes in our industry, evolving product roadmaps and client’s needs. This includes providing business analysis on market trends and regulatory changes, suggesting new data & content strategies based on local business requirements, as well as liaising with associations or working groups in order to design data collection plans, and ultimately bring back the voice of the client and local market to widen the moat of Morningstar Data.

• Monitor local market trends, competitor movements, and Morningstar data services, and thereafter make recommendations to relevant teams in order to ensure Morningstar is well placed to act on any opportunities that may arise.

• Serve as point of escalation and the subject matter expert of local market to help resolve client data questions as part of data level-4 support where needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2-year proven experience of leading a team to deliver outstanding results.

• Solid understanding of investment management industry in general, primarily in areas of asset management, fund distribution, and wealth management spaces. Passionate about investment data.

• Minimum 5-year relevant experience working with financial data, and deep subject matter expertise on managed investment data points, processes, methodologies and analytics.

• Rich experience working to support business growth and client engagement activities.

• Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and negotiation skills, and strong problem solving and analytical skills.

• Proven ability to multi-task, handle complex relationships, and work in a fast-paced environment.

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required.
