We are looking for a Baker to join our team at Café Domenica, Preston Circus to deliver a production of cakes, quiches and tarts to our café’s, wholesale and catering business. The job will consist of making mixes from scratch, following our recipes, baking, decorating, preparing fillings and toppings as well as savoury preparation.
We need someone with lots of get up and go, who can work under their own initiative to carry out all production jobs independently. The role will also involve working alongside Education Team to support our candidates who will be following a be-spoke training programme in the café.
CONTRACT DETAILS
CONTRACT: Full-time, Permanent. Monday-Friday shifts with occasional Saturday cover
EXPECTED HOURS: 35-40 per week
SALARY: £12.75 hourly rate
ANNUAL LEAVE: 25 days holiday per annum plus 8 English bank and public holidays.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Baking and decorating a range of cakes to high quality and consistency.
• Taking responsibility for the daily, weekly and monthly cleaning of the kitchen and upkeep the food safety (SFBB) diary daily.
• Ensuring the food preparation areas are clean and hygienic.
• Preparing quiches and savoury items for our other cafés in our food prep room.
• Producing and fulfilling menus for outside catering events and wholesale cakes.
• Ordering, receiving, and storing ingredients and ensuring careful stock rotation.
• Contributing to the weekly and monthly management of stock including a monthly stock take.
• Ensure that all equipment is correctly working each day and to alert the manager immediately and take it out of service if anything is faulty.
• Work collaboratively with café managers to ensure menus meet demands of individual cafés and reflect current food trends.
• Support the team to streamline production processes, increase volume of production and reduce wastage.
• Keep candidates safe and adhere to charity’s safeguarding policy.
• Support the Café Manager with other operational duties where necessary

REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION
• A minimum 2 years baking/ cake making experience.
• Level 3 Diploma in Confectionary and Patisserie or relevant catering qualification.
• Experience of working in a café/kitchen, preferably you will have at least two years’ experience of food preparation.
• A willingness to contribute seasonal menu items.
• Have a friendly and engaging personality, a good communicator and able to work well
under pressure.
• Ability to multi-task is crucial in this role, you will be willing to learn, take instruction and work under your own initiative whilst supporting the team.
• Be adaptable to changing situations, willing to adapt to meet the demands of the company and across our café sites if needed.
• Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
• To enjoy working with other people.
• Be thorough and pay attention to detail.
• Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities is preferable but not essential.
• DBS check is required for this role prior to commencing employment.
This role will be based predominantly at Brighton. Depending on their roles, our staff can be required to work on a range of different sites, including our main training centre, enrichment site, training cafés and employer’s premises.
