Park Ranger (Interpretation) Standard Duties:

Teacher/student ratio is 1 teacher per 2-5 students. Full-service communities are in Green River, Utah (113 miles), Blanding, Utah (139 miles), Moab, UT (175 miles) and Price, Utah (143 miles) each having a small hospital and dentists. Major services are available in Cortez, Durango, and Grand Junction, Colorado, or Page, Arizona, all 3 to 5 hours away via all-weather highways, and depending on Ferry operations across Lake Powell. The Bullfrog area encompasses beautiful red-rock canyon country, and the local Henry Mountains (highest peak is Mt. Ellen at 11,526 ft). Bullfrog is the main access point to Lake Powell in the Northlake District and visitation is heavy in the summer. Summer temperatures average in the low 100's and winter temperatures are in the 30's with sunshine most days of the year. The Personnel Security Assistant serves as an Assistant to the Personnel Security Specialist and assures that all appointees have the appropriate level of security/suitability clearance commensurate with their assignment. Work assigned is of a very confidential and highly sensitive nature.

Major duties may include, but not limited to:

• Reviews information submitted by the requesting office to validate level of background required, enters appointee information into a local data base tracking system and refers appointee for fingerprinting.
• Enters appropriate data in required databases related to an appointee's suitability from a wide variety of sources.
• Performs audits of official personnel folders to assure that information related to suitability is properly recorded and filed.
• Initiates, reviews and releases appointees background investigations in the Office of Personnel Managements, National Background Investigation Service (NBIS) or in conjunction with the VA- Adjudication Center.
• Regularly monitors the status of specific pending items, compiles data to produce reports, follows up to determine status and records results.
• Takes and transmits electronic fingerprints for appointees or when the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) returns fingerprints unclassifiable for various reasons.
• Assemble position descriptions and functional statements for the Personnel Security Specialist for review.
• Serves as the initial point of contact for new appointees including but not limited to paid or without compensation employees, volunteers, students, residents, and contractors.

Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Hours may vary to cater Pacific or Mountain Standard Time based upon Service Line's Needs)
