The criticality team at NNL provides criticality safety advice and assessment for our own activities as well as for a number of customers across different licensed sites.

NNL are looking for a dedicated criticality specialist to take on the technical leadership of Criticality Safety Assessment within NNL and the development of NNL's capability in this area to support our own facilities, our Focus Areas and current and future customers. This will involve liaison and collaboration with customers and other organisations as well as the development and oversight of the activities under the Core Science Theme. You will also enhance technical skills within the Criticality area and support development of team member's skills and capability and lead activities in support of the development of NNL's national reputation in the criticality area.

We are looking for a driven individual to lead these developments and realise the opportunities for NNL and its customers. The role will involve:

• Building a wide range of relationships from safety, technical and delivery teams in NNL, the NNL Focus Area leads, customers and external specialists in the field of criticality safety.


• The shaping, guiding, and reviewing of the technical delivery of projects to ensure they achieve agreed objectives.


• Leading the development of any relevant technology and the capability and skills of safety assessors.


• The development and acceptance of any methodologies, processes or standards required for this evolving discipline.


• Representing NNL on relevant national forums.


• Understanding of the stakeholders within NNL, its customers, regulators and beyond.

You will have experience that gives examples of how you have successfully delivered to the required time, cost, and quality meeting the customer expectations. You will already have networks in place that put you on a national stage and will allow you to develop the international reputation.

At NNL we support working flexibly, can accommodate homeworking, and can be flexible about location, although some travel will be necessary, to support business needs.

The location of this role is flexible and can be based at Sellafield, Workington, Preston or Risley.

Main Responsibilities for Senior Criticality Consultant:

• Leading technical delivery of projects inthecriticality area to time, cost, quality, value and service requirements (working independently). Customers may include any UK civil or defence nuclear facility or operator (includingNNL laboratories). Accountabilities include:

• Provide expert knowledge of criticality safety assessment including being up to date with developments in methodology and approach. National level subject matter expert.


• Leading criticality support to multi-disciplinary teams addressing safety challenges.


• Leading the identification and development of new opportunities for the team, including technical support to bids.


• Use initiative to develop new capabilities through innovative approaches and providing insight. Technical lead on complex IR&D projects and submissions.


• Maintain technical awareness of both NNL and external competitors' capabilities within the broader criticality safety area. Identify best practice to improve the team.


• Developing team SQEP skills for Criticality, e.g., mentoring and supervision. Design and deliver specialist criticality training.


• Membership of relevant national industry groups to represent NNL.

Essential Criteria for Senior Criticality Consultant:

• Degree qualified or equivalent level of demonstrable technical capability.


• SQEP 3 with demonstrable experience in criticality safety.


• Excellent level of knowledge in the specialised field of criticality safety assessment. Detailed knowledge of advanced assessment techniques.


• Proven ability to act independently, under own initiative, while supervising other members of the team.


• Strong communication skills, including multi-site working.


• Excellent teamworking skills, with ability to inspire the work of a team.


• Experienced in mentoring and developing technical skills.


• Excellent networking skills, maintaining network across the criticality field nationally.

Desirable Criteria for Senior Criticality Consultant:

• Preferably Chartered Membership of a professional institution, or working towards this qualification.

NNL are looking to recruit a team of Health Physics monitors to carry out Routine and Non Routine Operations on the Windscale site on Sellafield. They will be expected to cover both facilities on the site as required, offering Health Physics support.

Main Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities for Health Physics Monitor:

• Provide advice in the area of radiological protection, referring upwards where appropriate and as agreed.
• Produce survey sheets, reports, presentations and data in an understandable manner in order to support NNL management.
• Work with other specialists (e.g. Advisors and Analysts) to share findings and identify trends to develop a holistic picture of issues, concerns, good practice and areas for improvement in EHSS&Q culture and performance.
• Ensure that the specialist advice provided is proportionate and ensures compliance with NNL and external requirements.
• To follow through on advice provided, to ensure that it is implemented in a way that provides a suitable solution to the original problem identified.
• Ensure you attend all training courses to ensure you maintain a high standard within the role of Health Physics monitor.
• Provide an emergency response for Health Physics matters.
• Report issues and behaviours which cause concern in the workplace.

Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Health Physics Monitor:

• City and Guilds Level 1 in Radiation Protection or NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection.
• Experience working as a Health Physics monitor in a Nuclear facility.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017,Environmental Permitting Regulations (amended) 2011 & Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
• Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Health Physics Monitor:

• IOSH working safely.
• Experience of NNL Central Lab , Windscale Operations or equivalent SL plant.

• Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders to effect successful delivery of projects and identify new opportunities for the team.
• Contributing to the development of new capabilities through innovative approaches and providing insight. Work independently on own IR&D project and submit own IR&D proposal.
• Maintaining technical awareness of NNL capabilities within the criticality safety area.
• Developing and maintaining SQEP skills for Criticality and continuing professional development

• Lead on the technical delivery of projects in the criticality area to time, cost, quality, value and service requirements (working independently). Customers may include any UK civil or defence nuclear facility or operator (including NNL laboratories).
• Technical lead on small projects, e.g., up to £50k.
• Supporting long-term projects with a duration from 3 months up to typically 1-2 years.
• Clearly define project/bid deliverables and determine the scope of what milestones need to be completed to achieve the overall objectives.
• Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams addressing safety challenges.
• Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders to effect successful delivery of projects and identify new opportunities for the team.
• Contributing to the development of new capabilities through innovative approaches and providing insight. Work independently on own IR&D project and submit own IR&D proposal.
• Maintaining technical awareness of NNL capabilities within the criticality safety area.
• Developing and maintaining SQEP skills for Criticality and continuing professional development
• Design and deliver criticality awareness training.
• Active involvement in relevant national industry groups.

Essential Criteria for Criticality Consultant:

• Degree qualified or equivalent level of demonstrable technical capability.
• SQEP 3, experienced in criticality safety.
• Strong level of knowledge and experience with proven track record in technical delivery in the specialised field of criticality safety.
• Proven ability to both act independently under own initiative and to work in a team.
• Strong communication skills, including multi-site working.
• Mentoring skills to mentor and develop junior staff.

The Control Systems Technical Support will report to the Instrument Engineer and work across both Central and Windscale Labs responsible for providing front line technical support to the Infrastructure Compliance Engineering team. • Responsible for development of pragmatic fit-for-purpose PES engineering solutions that meet the objectives of the organisation in a cost-effective manner.


• Support maintenance activities by implementing and maintaining the PES technical basis of maintenance (TBoM) process across both facilities, in addition they will assist with planning for complex maintenance activities based on insight and equipment experience.


• Accountable to the Instrument Engineer for ensuring all maintenance tasks are clearly briefed, understood and are performed safely and on schedule to ensure safe operation of the facility.


• Comply with legislative, regulatory and company procedures and standards e.g. safety, quality, risk, security appropriate to the role.


• Responsible for ensuring the delivery of work complies with all site requirements and plant and personnel are operating within the safety envelope.


• Responsible for assisting in the production of any Plant Modification Proposals, Temporary Software Modifications and other PES Management and Cyber categorisation documents.


• Supporting the facilities in installation, modifications and commissioning of installed equipment, including identifying and assisting in delivery of plant and process improvements.


• Become nominated on the Facilities PES systems, undertake interventions duties including permanent & temporary software modifications, upload & download of software, startup & shutdown etc.


• Responsible for producing appropriate Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) for any maintenance or breakdown tasks identified (PES).

Job description Working with the Information and Digital Transformation Officers to provide digital and IT Administrative support for the 4 NCPC practices in Workington/Whitehaven/Cleator Moor/Frizington/Egremont and Seascale. This role will support the Practice Managers and Information and Digital Transformation Officers in providing timely data, administration duties, and technical support such as setting up and supporting staff with software which will include systems like EMIS Web, Ardens products, AccuRX, eConsult, Telephone systems, medical appliance software and social media and website content, working with practices to utilise the tools given to us, to deliver patient information, and any other related tasks. Hardware and Network support is supported by e-health. Your role will be to report any issues to the e-health helpdesk and ensure they are actioned in a timely manner, and liaise with the local e-health team to ensure smooth running of all hardware and network systems and ordering of equipment and maintaining a practice asset register. This is more of an IT Administration role, than a technical role, although some technical knowledge will be an advantage. You will be asked to attend meetings as a representative for your localities, and work with other NHS bodies to encourage and support shared care across all services available. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the development and ongoing utilisation of digital communications with patients and staff. Trouble shooting network, hardware and software issues. Ordering of new equipment and relocating equipment depending on practice requirements. Responsible for setting up and ongoing management of user accounts on all systems used within practice. These will include EMIS Web clinical systems, smartcard systems, NHS Mail accounts, and supporting Ardens and other patient support packages where required. Working with the Information and Digital Transformation Officers to provide day to day support for members of the practice team in accessing patient data via searches etc. Maintaining an equipment asset management register, along with information data flow registers and significant event/data breach registers. Maintain stock levels for printer toner/drum cartridges across sites ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained. Encourage, train and support staff to carry out routine troubleshooting of IT equipment. Keep social media accounts up to date with regular and urgent practice updates. Update practice websites in line with NCPC guidance. Ensure that the practice meet Information Governance requirements and provide support to staff in this area with advice from NCPC Information and Digital Transformation Officers. Support practice improvements in the use of IT equipment and Systems, working with practice staff to improve workflow and create efficiencies using digital technologies. Support the practices in induction training for all new staff, helping new staff set up accounts and training on practice systems they will be using to preform ther day to day duties. Setting up of NHS Smartcards and ongoing management. Liaising with external companies that supply us with services. i.e phone systems, printer toners. Provide administrative support setting up and maintaining user accounts on all systems. Provide support for Service Delivery Leads where required. Provide monthly data on specific practice services in line with practice KPIs and Service level agreements. Provide monthly data on telephone systems, appointments, and eConsult systems and advice and guidance systems. Rectify coding of Enhanced services, to ensure that correct codes are being used for payment purposes Management and monitoring or Patient Triage Systems AccuRX/eConsult. Case Worker- Whitehaven
We are delighted to be launching a new service with local delivery partners to support individuals across Whitehaven and Copeland.
The 24/7 Community Mental Health Support Hub will allow us to transform the way mental health care is provided locally, by bringing together specialist health, social care and community services in the heart of Whitehaven in West Cumbria.
This recruitment process is a joint venture between Homegroup and Everyturn; as part of a wider partnership project for the development of the 24/7 Community Mental Health Hub in Whitehaven.
We are looking for Case Workers to join this amazing new service which is due to launch January 2025. We are looking for resilient, compassionate individuals to work across our new Safe Haven and Crisis Support Team.
You will provide a safe and welcoming environment in person and over the phone for all clients, using de-escalation skills, active listening and calm communication. To support the person to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence to withstand future life challenges, whilst maintaining good mental health and wellbeing, and liaising with appropriate services.
Please note that due to the nature of this role, it is essential that you live locally to Whitehaven and are able to travel across Copeland.
About the role
Co-produce and support the individual to implement a crisis plan, relapse prevention and other self-management tools such as Wellness Recovery Action Plan (wrap), in partnership with the person, maintaining hope and optimism to support the individual in their recovery.
Provide signposting and guidance, as well as support where appropriate to the person to access services and resources they need. The amount and intensity of this support will vary depending on the persons needs, mental health and life circumstances to ensure they are supported during their recovery.

The role was originally allocated to one Tier 4 post from April 2023, but the development of the waste change programme and the plans for mobilisation require dedicated resource and expertise, which is not currently available in house.
