The Cambian Group, the UK’s largest provider of specialist services in education, mental health rehabilitation and learning disabilities is looking for an experienced, creative teacher to join Cambian Scarborough School. The role is to provide teaching for a range of subjects at mainly primary level in a school where pupils often have complex needs, associated learning difficulties and challenging behaviours.

Cambian Scarborough School is an independent day school with up to 20 pupils on roll, aged 8 to 18 years, all of whom have social, emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties. Pupils are placed in Scarborough School by local authorities and most pupils have an Education Health and Care plan in place.
We have a loyal and committed team of staff in place who work very hard on behalf of the pupils who attend. Pupils at Scarborough School are here because they are unable to attend mainstream education for a range of reasons and some have missed significant periods of education prior to joining the school.

The successful candidate will:
Have achieved a Degree in Teaching.
Primarily Teach Design & Technology throughout the school to KS2, KS3 and KS4. Be adaptable and able to teach across the age and ability range of our pupils, including working towards the BTec Construction award which includes teaching lessons on masonry, joinery and woodwork, general DIY skills, painting and decorating, plastering and plumbing.
Have knowledge of the full curriculum and be able to deliver in more than one curriculum area.
Have an understanding and experience of working with young people with SEMH difficulties and be able to use an empathetic approach to engage learners.
Identify appropriate learning outcomes and develop a range of approaches which reduce barriers and help pupils to attain achievable targets.
Able to facilitate a safe and positive learning environment and de-escalate any aggressive behaviour.
Have high expectations for all students and be able to raise attainment level and keep standards high.
Have good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Outlook & PowerPoint.
Have good interpersonal skills and will be able interact with and communicate confidently with staff and pupils.
Be a team player, with a positive, can do, attitude.
Have a sound understanding of Safeguarding practices and procedures.
Have de-escalation knowledge and restraint training, or be willing to undertake full training provided by the school.
Your main responsibilities will include teaching Design & Technology classes, lesson planning, creating medium and long term plans, assessing individual pupils’ abilities, preparing BTec materials to submit for examinations and supporting pupils with special educational needs. You will also be required to teach some other subjects which you are passionate about and this can be discussed during your interview.
