Position: Mechanical Engineering Technician
Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 plus 11.5% super
Hours: 38 hours

Helix Australia (www.helixpack.com.au) is a leading engineering company specializing in the design and manufacture of industrial automation packaging equipment such as, automatic bagging machines, tray sealing machines, flow wrapping machines, and product feed conveyor systems.
As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a hands-on Machinery Repair Service Technician to support our team. You will primarily assist our service technicians with maintenance, repairs diagnose issues, while also contributing to general factory duties and also have chance to participate in the 2D and 3D design of machines.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Use Solidworks to create 3D models from real-life machines and concept drawings. You will be involved in improving existing designs and designing new solutions.
• Machine Maintenance: assist Service Technicians in diagnosing issues, maintaining equipment, and conducting installations at customer sites.
• Warehouse Help: assist with the warehouse and storeroom organisation, such as packing machines, film, parts for dispatch.
• Hands on work with motors, pneumatics, conveyors etc.
• Getting trained under technical director to work on processing machines, lathe, milling, griding, drilling etc…
• Working with senior technician and understand mechanical and electrical principles, with a focus on servicing and repair.
• Choosing machine components and devices based on the finalized design.
• Maximizing productivity by optimizing workforce, facility layout, and cost factors for enhanced efficiency.
• Assembling and installing both new and refurbished mechanical products and hydraulic power systems based on project specifications.
• Selecting materials and quantities for production while overseeing the machining of parts.
• Communicating with Directors and Senior Technicians to discuss production-related issues.
• Preparing prototypes based on customer specifications, which involves analyzing requirements, selecting materials, fabricating the prototype, and gathering feedback for effective product development. Clear communication improves customer satisfaction and minimizes errors.
• Researching innovative production techniques.
• Conducting and reviewing engineering investigations on various issues, including defects, obsolescence, proposed changes, and maintenance procedures.
• Assisting with the production and integration of engineering changes.
Qualifications:
• Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/Mechatronics
Other skills and requirements:
• Requiring a minimum of 2 years of work experience in a relevant role
• Occasionally use SolidWorks to create 3D models of real-life machines and support the design of new solutions.
• Basic understanding of SolidWorks or a willingness to learn is preferred.
