We have fantastic opportunities for individuals to join us as Social Care Assistants working within our Adults Day Services. We are looking for a dedicated individuals who can provide high quality direct care and support to residents within our day centres, focusing on personal wellbeing outcomes and individual wishes, to achieve strength-based support.

We have currently have two 12 month secondment/fixed term contract opportunities:

- Full time 37 hours position at Burnham Short Breaks Service. Monday to Friday – 8.30-4.30pm with 30 minutes for lunch

- Part time 22 hours position at Spring Valley High Wycombe Short Breaks Service. Monday to Thursday 9:00-3:00pm. Please note the salary advertised will be pro-rata for part time.

About us

Despite the challenges that Adult Social Care has faced within the last 12 months, our approach in Buckinghamshire has not been to take shelter and wait for the storm to pass. Instead, we have chosen to transform and restructure Adult Social Care so we can respond to a crisis as well as build for the future.

We have day centres across Burnham, Aylesbury, Chesham, Beaconsfield and Buckingham with each centre offering short break day services to vulnerable adults and supporting them to live independent, full lives.

Our day centres offer a number of services, some being more specialised, but the core function of all of our centres is to provide support and care to clients and their families so they can learn new skills, meet new people and develop their independence through a variety of activities.

About the role

As a Social Care Assistant working within our day centre, you will be supporting adults with learning disabilities and elderly clients to provide them with personal care, feeding, employment support, domestic skills and activities such as arts and crafts, music and drama, and much more!

No two days will be the same as you meet a variety of people and support their individual needs. Some of the work tasks you will carry out include:

- Providing personal care for individuals, this may include but is not limited to dressing, toileting, washing and general housekeeping.

- Providing people with information and advice in relation to care and support and assistance in accessing care and support through various means.

- Ensuring an agreed plan meets individual’s care and support outcomes needs and to empower the individual to access early intervention and preventative services.

- Informing senior colleagues and adhere to safeguarding procedure of any concerns which arise in relation to the safety of vulnerable adults.

- Working in partnership with individuals, carers, service providers, voluntary sector and other professionals.

Fixed

As a ‘fixed’ worker, you’ll spend most of your time in the same location, which will likely be a fixed office or location where your role is performed. Typically, you’ll be based in the same location as the rest of your team, because you provide a particular service from that fixed location or need access to information there.

About you

Naturally, you will be a great people person, able to deliver practical care and support to an agreed plan using your own initiative to problem solve and utilising remote management oversight, where required.

This may involve undertaking a specialist role that requires specific training (e.g. autism services) or undertaking and administering personal care and/or medication.

On occasion you may be required to work at our other day centres so the ability to be flexible along with being able to travel is an essential requirement.

Shifts on rotation plus paid overtime
As a Catering Hospitality Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our catering services. Your primary responsibility will be to provide exceptional customer service and support to our clients and guests during various meetings/ events and functions. Ensuring meeting/event rooms are set up to the required specification and food and drinks are provided in a professional and timely fashion.

Assist with the setup and arrangement of event venues, including tables, chairs, decorations, and other equipment, as per the client's requirements.

Help with the preparation, presentation, and service of food and beverages during meeting/events, ensuring high-quality standards are maintained.

Work closely with the catering team to coordinate meeting/event logistics, ensuring all aspects of the catering service are executed smoothly and efficiently.

Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the food preparation and service areas, adhering to health and safety regulations.

Assist with inventory control, including monitoring stock levels, replenishing supplies, and reporting any discrepancies or shortages.

Respond promptly and courteously to guest inquiries, requests, and concerns, providing necessary information and resolving issues in a professional manner.

Collaborate effectively with the catering team, kitchen staff, and other departments to ensure seamless coordination and delivery of services.

Assist with post-meeting/event cleanup tasks, including the removal of waste, packing equipment, and returning the venue to its original state.

Attend all location management meetings as required

Job Description

The Role

We’re excited to offer an opportunity for a Community Facilities Assistant to join our Facilities Team. Based primarily at The Campus, a vibrant hub for Herons’ Moor Academy, Baytree School, Locking Castle Children’s Centre, and various leisure and library facilities, you will play a key role in keeping our spaces functional, safe, and welcoming. This hands-on role involves a variety of physical tasks and occasional manual handling, making it ideal for someone who enjoys an active workday.

You’ll work a 3 week rolling rota schedule that includes early shifts (6 am–12:30 pm), late shifts (2 pm–10 pm), and one weekend in three. As part of your duties, you’ll also support other North Somerset Council sites, such as Somerset Hall in Portishead, where you will perform tasks like setting up for events, cleaning beer lines, and conducting compliance checks.

Key Responsibilities:

In this varied role, your daily tasks will include:

Facilities and Maintenance Support: Respond to staff and user queries, address building issues, and handle room setup requests. Perform small DIY repairs such as fixing cupboard doors, putting up notice boards, or reactive Health & Safety works.
Waste and Environmental Compliance: Ensure safe waste disposal in line with North Somerset Council (NSC) guidelines and ISO14001 standards.
Routine Checks and Maintenance: Conduct plant room inspections, fire alarm testing, fire extinguisher audits, and other safety checks to ensure facilities remain compliant and secure.
Contractor Management: Oversee contractors on-site, ensuring adherence to safety policies and site protocols.
Building Security and Response: Open and close the building, respond to any immediate issues, and monitor activities throughout the day using a two-way radio.
Event and Site Support: Support additional sites as needed, including setup for events and cleaning or maintenance tasks.

About You

We’re looking for someone with a positive, proactive attitude who thrives in a customer-focused environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks are essential. Experience in building maintenance or repairs is beneficial but not required—we’ll support you as you learn on the job.

Essential Criteria:

Customer service experience: You should have worked in a similar environment (schools, community buildings, etc.).
Teamwork and adaptability: You’ll be working with colleagues, external contractors, and a range of community members, so flexibility and people skills are key.
Health and Safety: Basic knowledge is essential, especially regarding safe manual handling.
Driving License: A full UK driving licence is required as you will be required to use a fleet vehicle on occasions.

Desirable Criteria:

Experience in building maintenance or general repairs.
Experience working in schools or community settings.
A minimum of 3 GCSEs or equivalent qualification
