Technical Support are responsible for providing Engineering support to the Infrastructure Compliance Engineering team to assist in delivering expertise in general plant, system, equipment reliability, configuration management or other specialised subject matter needed to satisfy the multi-faceted needs of the organisation.

Main Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities for Electrical Technical Support:

• Responsible for development of pragmatic fit-for-purpose engineering solutions that meet the objectives of the organisation in a cost-effective manner.
• Support maintenance activities by implementing and maintaining the technical basis of maintenance (TBoM) process, in addition they will assist with planning for complex maintenance activities based on insight and equipment experience.
• Accountable to the Maintenance Delivery Manager for ensuring all maintenance tasks are clearly briefed, understood and are performed safely and on schedule to ensure safe operation of the facility.
• Comply with legislative, regulatory and company procedures and standards e.g. safety, quality, risk, security appropriate to the role.
• Responsible for ensuring the delivery of work complies with all site requirements and plant and personnel are operating within the safety envelope.
• Responsible for assisting in the production of any PMP's required within Compliance Engineering, this will include presenting at committee.
• Supporting the E&I Team Leader in installation, modifications and commissioning of installed equipment, including identifying and assisting in delivery of plant and process improvements.
• Responsible for producing appropriate Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) for any maintenance or breakdown tasks identified by the Team Leader.
• Attend any forums as appropriate to keep abreast of best practice around other facilities, responsible for sharing and implementing any learning around their facility.

Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Electrical Technical Support:

• Degree Qualified (Electrical) or HND in an equivalent discipline. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of stated qualification.
• Strong communications skills, ability to communicate key information with customers, suppliers and stakeholders.
• Ability to demonstrate conservative decision making, even in pressure situations.
• Demonstrable knowledge of operational & maintenance requirements.
• Evidence of self-motivation with demonstrable levels of drive, energy and resilience.
• Ability to interface on a technical level with Design and Capability teams.
• Requirement to become appointed as Safety Supervisor.
• Required to become PMP Manager.
• Requirement to become appointed as Sub Contractor Supervisor.

Desirable Criteria for Electrical Technical Support:

• Hold IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent as a minimum qualification.
• A thorough awareness of nuclear, conventional safety and security requirements applicable to their area of responsibility.
• Ability to demonstrate supervisory experience for operations undertaken within a nuclear plant.
• Good general safety case awareness with demonstrable knowledge of nuclear safety mechanisms (SM), safety related equipment (SRE) and Safety Features (SF).
• Ability to interface on a technical level with Design and Capability teams.

Supporting the practice by maintaining a register of cancer patients and ensure patients receive a Cancer Care review in line with national defined timescales and targets. Support the practice in conducting peer to peer learning events that look at data and trends in diagnosis, including cases where patients presented repeatedly before referral and late diagnoses. Holistically bring together all of a persons identified care and support needs, and explore options to meet these within a single personalised care and support plan. Where possible be the first point of contact for patients during their cancer journey and help people to manage their needs through answering queries, making and managing appointments, and ensuring that people have good quality written or verbal information to help them make choices about their care. The Control Systems Technical Support will report to the Instrument Engineer and work across both Central and Windscale Labs responsible for providing front line technical support to the Infrastructure Compliance Engineering team. The applicant will assist in delivering expertise in Control Systems such as Programmable Electronic Systems (PES), Building Management Systems (BMS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), DCS & SCADA systems, including equipment reliability, configuration management or other specialised subject matter needed to satisfy the multi-faceted needs of the organisation.

Main Responsibilities for Control Systems Technical Support:

• Responsible for development of pragmatic fit-for-purpose PES engineering solutions that meet the objectives of the organisation in a cost-effective manner.


• Support maintenance activities by implementing and maintaining the PES technical basis of maintenance (TBoM) process across both facilities, in addition they will assist with planning for complex maintenance activities based on insight and equipment experience.


• Accountable to the Instrument Engineer for ensuring all maintenance tasks are clearly briefed, understood and are performed safely and on schedule to ensure safe operation of the facility.


• Comply with legislative, regulatory and company procedures and standards e.g. safety, quality, risk, security appropriate to the role.


• Responsible for ensuring the delivery of work complies with all site requirements and plant and personnel are operating within the safety envelope.


• Responsible for assisting in the production of any Plant Modification Proposals, Temporary Software Modifications and other PES Management and Cyber categorisation documents.


• Supporting the facilities in installation, modifications and commissioning of installed equipment, including identifying and assisting in delivery of plant and process improvements.


• Become nominated on the Facilities PES systems, undertake interventions duties including permanent & temporary software modifications, upload & download of software, startup & shutdown etc.


• Responsible for producing appropriate Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) for any maintenance or breakdown tasks identified (PES).


• Attend any forums as appropriate to keep abreast of best practice around other facilities, responsible for sharing and implementing any learning around their facility.

Essential Criteria for Control Systems Technical Support:

• Electrical & Instrument Apprenticeship, minimum HNC qualification. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of stated qualification.


• Demonstrable knowledge and experience of PES, PLC, BMS, DCS and SCADA systems, including operational and maintenance requirements.


• Strong communications skills, ability to communicate key information with customers, suppliers and stakeholders.

NNL are looking for a dedicated criticality specialist to take on the technical leadership of Criticality Safety Assessment within NNL and the development of NNL's capability in this area to support our own facilities, our Focus Areas and current and future customers. This will involve liaison and collaboration with customers and other organisations as well as the development and oversight of the activities under the Core Science Theme. You will also enhance technical skills within the Criticality area and support development of team member's skills and capability and lead activities in support of the development of NNL's national reputation in the criticality area.

We are looking for a driven individual to lead these developments and realise the opportunities for NNL and its customers. The role will involve:

• Building a wide range of relationships from safety, technical and delivery teams in NNL, the NNL Focus Area leads, customers and external specialists in the field of criticality safety.


• The shaping, guiding, and reviewing of the technical delivery of projects to ensure they achieve agreed objectives.


• Leading the development of any relevant technology and the capability and skills of safety assessors.


• The development and acceptance of any methodologies, processes or standards required for this evolving discipline.


• Representing NNL on relevant national forums.


• Understanding of the stakeholders within NNL, its customers, regulators and beyond.

You will have experience that gives examples of how you have successfully delivered to the required time, cost, and quality meeting the customer expectations. You will already have networks in place that put you on a national stage and will allow you to develop the international reputation.

At NNL we support working flexibly, can accommodate homeworking, and can be flexible about location, although some travel will be necessary, to support business needs.

The location of this role is flexible and can be based at Sellafield, Workington, Preston or Risley.

Main Responsibilities for Senior Criticality Consultant:

• Leading technical delivery of projectsinthecriticality area to time, cost, quality, value and service requirements (working independently). Customers may include any UK civil or defence nuclear facility or operator (includingNNL laboratories). Accountabilities include:
  
  
  
  • Direction and supervision of other criticality consultants.
  
  
  • Management of relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  
  
  • Advice, training and independent inspection.
  
  
  
  


• Leading NNL's criticality support consultancy to external customers.


• Provide expert knowledge of criticality safety assessment including being up to date with developments in methodology and approach. National level subject matter expert.


• Leading criticality support to multi-disciplinary teams addressing safety challenges.


• Leading the identification and development of new opportunities for the team, including technical support to bids.


• Use initiative to develop new capabilities through innovative approaches and providing insight. Technical lead on complex IR&D projects and submissions.


• Maintain technical awareness of both NNL and external competitors' capabilities within the broader criticality safety area. Identify best practice to improve the team.


• Developing team SQEP skills for Criticality, e.g., mentoring and supervision. Design and deliver specialist criticality training.


• Membership of relevant national industry groups to represent NNL.

Essential Criteria for Senior Criticality Consultant:

• Degree qualified or equivalent level of demonstrable technical capability.


• SQEP 3 with demonstrable experience in criticality safety.


• Excellent level of knowledge in the specialised field of criticality safety assessment. Detailed knowledge of advanced assessment techniques.


• Proven ability to act independently, under own initiative, while supervising other members of the team.


• Strong communication skills, including multi-site working.


• Excellent teamworking skills, with ability to inspire the work of a team.


• Experienced in mentoring and developing technical skills.


• Excellent networking skills, maintaining network across the criticality field nationally.

Desirable Criteria for Senior Criticality Consultant:

• Preferably Chartered Membership of a professional institution, or working towards this qualification.
