The Planning and Economic Development team is currently working and consulting on a new strategy to best meet Hertsmere’s housing and employment needs for the next 15 years. This will require designation of some strategic sites that will be master-planned and developed to specific standards. The team, which includes Climate Change and Economic Development functions is supported by the ruling administration in its aims to deliver genuinely sustainable growth. Our Development Management service is currently working on some truly exciting projects including several large scale residential and commercial plans.
About the role + about you
The successful candidate will be working on a whole range of projects, including strategic sites in the Local Plan. This involves a potential new settlement up to 6,000 homes. The role will also involve engaging on a day to day basis with current planning applications and pre-applications to assist colleagues in design advice and advocate good design.
The role will also update design guidance/advice where necessary, as well as help with Design Coding for new Local Plan sites.
Many of the projects are of corporate importance, so regular liaison with other services is essential. Specifically those managing projects in our Asset Management team and the recent formed Hertsmere Development Limited.

Hertsmere is at a pivotal period. The borough is located on the edge of London, with great connectivity to the City. It is also very much part of Hertfordshire with 80% of the borough being Green Belt, around the four main settlements of Borehamwood, Bushey, Radlett and Potters Bar. This rural nature/feel is very much loved by its residents. We are the home for creative industries including Elstree Studios, BBC Elstree and Sky Studios Elstree. It also has Elstree Aerodrome, med-tech companies and other key sectors supporting the local and wider economy.
Our own newly modernised offices benefit from being close to both the A1(M) and M25 whilst Elstree and Borehamwood Station lies within Zone 6 and provides a direct rail link to London St Pancras.
