Business Analyst

Here at Serco, we are looking for a Business Analyst to join the Data & Insights and Business Analysis team. Reporting to the Head of Analytics & Insight (UK&E), you will be responsible for assessing the business model and its integration with technology, acting as a bridge between the business problems and the technical solution. You will be required to understand business requirements which clearly address business needs and align with business procedures.
As our Business Analyst, you will analyse, transforms, and resolve business problems with the help of technology. You will also be required to assess the suitability of current information systems in terms of their intended outcomes and play a key role in the implementation of new Information Systems. You will need to be able to identify and analyse areas for improvement and define the requirements of a solution. You will support stakeholders formulate a route from where the business is today, to where it needs to be in the future.
Main responsibilities of the role include:
- Proactively communicate with external and internal stakeholders to analyse information needs, functional requirements, and business processes.
- Understanding business needs as they relate to a business change or transformation.
- Eliciting, validating, prioritizing, and documenting business and technical requirements.
- Produce detailed User Stories that offer a description of the situation, identify the scenario, document the business requirements, and specify the necessary acceptance criteria.
- Explaining technical jargon to non-technical/commercial teams.
- Produce all relevant further documentation and information which is in line with business requirements (BRDs, Traceability Matrix, etc…).
- Collaborate with technical architects to understand technology limitations and recommend development options to meet business needs.
- Model and map business processes and assist with the development of solutions to address business problems and improve business processes.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- A recognised qualification in Business Analytics, preferably certified through the BCS.
- Confident working with complex data and systems.
- Ability to make informed decisions through logical thinking.
- Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to engage with an audience and influence throughout process.
- A firm understanding of business analysis in practice, requirements engineering and modelling business processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people at all levels within the organisation.
- Excellent ICT skills including use of key Microsoft Office programmes, in particularly Excel.
- An understanding of systems architecture and the human interaction with the components of the system.
- Previous experience in a similar or related role.
