Incumbent performs his/her assigned shift, coordinating workflow, determining priority of examinations and ensuring workload completion. Performs a variety of radiographic examinations such as routine, difficult, and complex studies in department as well as OR and on the wards/units. Receives the patient, explains the method of procedure, positions patients, selects and sets technical factors, sets up and adjusts accessory equipment required and makes exposures necessary for the requested procedure. In performing these duties, the incumbent is responsible for the following:

1. Performs standard radiographic examinations of the head, trunk and extremities for diagnoses of illness and injuries with minimal to no assistance. Receives patients and explains examinations to be performed, ensuring patients are properly attired and prepared before positioning patient for requested examination. Performs procedures as defined by the equipment and scope of services, possibly including GI and small bowel series, cholecystograms, cholangiograms, urethorograms, barium and air contrast enemas, myelograms, arthrograms, venograms, DXA Scans, and contrast injections as it correlates to exam. Correlates clinical history, pertinent clinical data and other ancillary diagnostic examinations to obtain radiographic images of optimal value.
2. Able to assist radiologist in fluoroscopic examinations which require incumbent to prepare and administer intravenous, oral, and/or rectal contrast media. Fluoroscopic studies such as upper GI's, barium enemas, esophagrams and small bowel follow through are performed on a digital fluoroscopy unit employing direct digital radiography.
3. Assists in training employees and student technologist, coordinates radiation safety, receives patients and explains procedures, prepares x-ray room and equipment; performs portables, OR procedures, emergency room (Triage), and recovery room.
4. Maintains records of patients examined, and studies performed in the VISTA hospital information system and CPRS.
5. Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures and rearranges patient priorities to accommodate these more urgent requirements.
6. Responsible to explain exams to competent patients so that the patient understands what is to be done as well as what hazards, if any, is possible. Incumbent may be required by procedure or patient's condition to monitor vital signs, recognize allergic reactions and initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The incumbent will inspect instruments in the Preparation area, assemble trays and reprocess reusable medical equipment according to MIFU. The incumbent determines appropriate method for cleaning, decontamination, and sterilizing of equipment to prevent cross-infection potential while avoiding damage to the equipment. Prepares loads, operates equipment involved in sterilization processes. The incumbent will pick-up and transport soiled RMD and deliver to Decon. The incumbent will deliver reprocessed RMD to the appropriate service. The incumbent stores, issues, and maintains locator records on all SPS cycled equipment. The incumbent advises medical personnel on proper use of equipment. Incumbent must be knowledgeable of and adhere to all SPS policies/procedures/SOPs in performance of duties.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 1:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.; may require rotating shifts and duty location based on unit needs.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Implements program goals of vocational rehabilitation, training, and placement for veterans who have serious behavioral illness, physical and substance abuse disorders;
• Monitors the case findings of vocational rehabilitation candidates and develops and disseminates information on vocational rehabilitation resources to program staff and patients;
• Provides and assists in arranging suitable placement of more severely disabled, difficult to place veterans who may require more individualized treatment plans in vocational and academic training, community employment, and conducts follow-up and follow along services on these placements;
• Provides information, pre-employment assessment and workforce re-entry planning services, linkage, and coordination for VA and non-VA services to integrate Veterans into the community through competitive employment;
• Provides guidance and training to all homeless programs and staff across the VA Medical Center on resources that enhance and result in competitive employment outcomes for Veterans;
• Develops templates for concise, individualized Veteran-centered assessments to determine the needed intensity level of employment services and supports;
• Serves as a liaison to local community providers of employment placement and support services;
• Leads efforts to establish a local employment collaborative;
• Develops employment opportunities for homeless Veterans;
• Provides employment services to Veterans (such as access to job listings, resume preparation, interview skill training, job development, job placement, ongoing support, etc.);
• Monitors performance and progress through review of cases;
• Provides feedback to staff and leadership on system resources, strengths, accomplishments, challenges and recommended corrective actions;
• Develops and maintains a database on referral and placement outcomes; and
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
