Curriculum

At the Clacton Coastal Academy, we aim to ensure that every child ends up in successful employment. The curriculum is centred around core concepts which are sequenced in order to support students in every subject. Core concepts form the bones of the subject. The Role

We invite applications for a Post-doctoral research associate (PDRA) to join the Department of Earth Sciences at Durham university. The role is to work with Prof Madeleine Humphreys (Durham) and Dr Kate Dobson (Strathclyde) on a project funded by the European Research Council, "Storage and Eruption of Mushy Magma Systems" (STEMMS). The position is fixed term for 12 months.

The aim of the overall project is to explore the links between crystal mush textures, magmatic volatiles and the mobility of stored magmas within the crust. This position will use 3D image processing of numerically simulated to examine how crystal shape changes during impingement and progressive overgrowth of a crystal mush. The results will be compared to natural examples of crystal mush textures and used to help interpret crystal shape and crystallisation environment in natural settings. The PDRA will be based at Durham University but will also spend periods of time at Strathclyde. The PDRA will work with the PI and wider partners to interpret the results and produce high-impact publications based on their findings. The PDRA will join the vibrant volcanology group at Durham University and will further benefit from the Department's mentoring programme for early career researchers. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the general activities of the volcanology group and participate actively in the intellectual life of the department.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Associate to join Cardiff’s team to help deliver the HyNTS project.

This position is funded through a Strategic Innovation Funding collaboration on the HyNTS project. The aim of the project is to investigate the compression of hydrogen for use in energy networks. It will test repurposing of existing compression equipment to determine if it could be used for 100% hydrogen transmission. 

Project partners include Cardiff University, Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery, Northern Gas Networks, Southern Gas Networks, DNV Services UK, Premtech and Cullum Detuners. Under the beta phase, the project has been awarded £33.3 million ($42.8 million).

Periodic trips to the FutureGrid research facility are expected, and the candidate would need to engage in and review industrially led research activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this job:

• Documentation writing (protocol, reports, SOPs, etc.).

• Able to follow SOP instructions in a cGMP environment.

• Communicates with equipment vendors as needed for support on new systems.

• Maintains, reviews, and approves analytical instrument calibration and maintenance records.

• Assists with creation of CSV documents as directed by site CSV lead.

• Authors technical CSV documents and utilizes Alcon systems for routing for review/approvals. 

• Conducts work in compliance with cGMP, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Experience in writing. performing and reviewing laboratory equipment qualification documents.

• Experience with analytical systems (e.g. GC, HPLC, Karl Fischer, IR, pH, osmometry, and particle size).

• The candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment – able to rapidly flex activities and priorities.

• This candidate should have strong communication (written and oral) and organizational skills.

• The candidate must be able to work effectively with others cross-functionally.

Preferred Skills:

• Proficient with LIMS and eLN applications (e.g., LabVantage)

• Experience with software lifecycle activities / system development lifecycle documentation: User/Functional Requirement Specifications (U/FRS), Risk Assessments (RA), System Design and Configuration Specifications (SDCS), Design Qualification (DQ), Requirements Tracing (RTM), test script writing, summary reports, etc.

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs) 

• The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English

• 2 Years of Relevant Experience

Description

As an Equity Research Associate, the successful candidate will work closely with an analyst in support of providing insights and research on numerous companies primarily precious metals. The work environment involves collaboration, co-ordination and a shared knowledge base with the analyst and rest of the team. The associate role requires excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative/versatile team player. Tasks include but are not limited to:

• Daily writing of research reports and comments
• Analysis of financial statements and press releases
• Examination of industry databases and publications
• Completion of extraordinary information and data requests
• Creation and maintenance of detailed financial models
• Communication of recommendations to internal and external clients
• Participation in site visits and management meetings

Experience/Skills

A combination of exceptional writing skills, technical knowledge and skills in finance or accounting demonstrated through relevant work and educational experience is required. Prior industry experience in the mining industry is not required but could be a benefit. Candidates must have a clear and proven track record of achievement throughout their education and career. Other necessary attributes include:

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• A keen interest in Equity Research and mining
• A positive attitude, intellectual curiosity, the ability to learn quickly and strong attention to detail
• Superior work ethic, self-motivation and the ability to work independently
• Ability to systematically manage a heavy work load and meet stringent deadlines
• Flexibility to work irregular or extended hours
• Solid technology skills with robust knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bloomberg, FactSet

Education

Candidates should have an MBA/M.Fin degree with excellent grades or a CA designation and advancing towards the CFA designation. Geology or Mining background with real world experience would be beneficial.
