NIST's Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) sets the definitive U.S. standards for nearly every kind of measurement employed in commerce and research, sometimes across more than 20 orders of magnitude. This position is in PML's Device Fabrication Group, whose mission is to make novel sensors and readout circuitry, along with developing new processes and techniques. If hired as an Electronics Engineer for the Device Fabrication Group, you will:

• Design, fabricate and test high-performance superconducting integrated circuits and superconducting sensors operated at millikelvin temperatures
• Develop processes for the microfabrication of novel superconducting devices

• Operates gas or diesel powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler-type traction, such as road graders, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, wheel loaders, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments.
• Operates equipment to push, pull, pile, excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth and/or refuse.

You will:

• Perform routine and limited assignments pertaining to the scientific missions of the organization.
• Select appropriate methods and procedures for assignments based upon previous assignments or instructions.
• Assist senior staff, project officers, analytical staff, and other staff as necessary.
• Perform conventional or simple regulatory and compliance work.

• Uses and maintains emergency equipment such as backboards, suction devices, monitors, splints, oxygen-delivery systems, and stretchers.

• Perform operator maintenance on emergency vehicles, firefighting and medical equipment as required.
• Establishes communication with the receiving facility, providing all patient information including estimated time of arrival.
• Respond to fire alarms for all classes of fires, including those involving radioactive and/or hazardous materials, medical emergencies, rescue operations; wild land fires, hazardous material incidents, and aircraft emergencies.
• Assess fire ground conditions. Upon arrival at emergency scene position apparatus, take into consideration pre-planned instructions and such factors as hydrant locations, exposure, wind direction, overhead power lines, terrain, and rescue equipment.

Serves as a mechanical engineering specialist with responsibility for design and procurement of HVAC, plumbing, piping, auxiliary systems, water treatment, factory inspection, equipment installation and other mechanical equipment in pumping generating plants, pumping plants, hydroelectric power plants, visitors' centers, museums, office buildings and other large and/or complex buildings.

Prepares, reviews, and coordinates specifications for the design, fabrication, procurement and installation of HVAC, plumbing, piping, auxiliary systems, water treatment, factory inspection, equipment installation and other mechanical equipment.
