We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Principal Engineer to join our Highways and Transport Delivery Team. As Principal Engineer the successful candidate will lead the Transport Delivery Team and be responsible for the design and delivery of schemes within the Council's Integrated Transport Programme and other externally funded projects. Scheme disciplines will include Road Safety Engineering, Public Realm, Walking and Cycling, Parking and minor works, among others. The successful candidate will also bring innovation and experience to the team and ensure quality engagement with our residents and stakeholders.
Main responsibilities;
- To manage and oversee the design and delivery of the Council's Integrated Transport Programme and other disciplines from a range of different funding streams.
- To lead, mentor and manage the team through the delivery of schemes ensuring compliance with good practice and legislation.
- Identify future works programmes and the management of associated budgets.
Key skills & experience required;
- A Road Safety Engineering qualification and experience of delivering successful accident reduction schemes.
- An in-depth knowledge of the Road Traffic Regulation Act, Highways Act, Traffic Management Act and other legislation relevant to the nature of the role.
- The ability to prepare briefs and cost estimates for works and provide management reports and information including performance indicators.
- Experience of leading and motivating a team, ensuring the effective management of contractors and efficient design and delivery of highway improvement schemes.
- The ability to correspond with Members and stakeholders in a professional and timely manner and draft reports, which may sometimes be of a complex nature.

An excellent opportunity has become available for a Mobile Vehicle Tail Lift Engineer covering the Essex or Suffolk/ Norfolk area.

This role would suit an experienced Transport Tail Lift Engineer, although consideration would be given to experienced Motor Vehicle Technicians looking to get into the Transport Tail Lift Industry.

Reporting into the Regional Business Manager, you will work as part of a team of Mobile Tail Lift Engineers. The focus will be the Maintenance and Repair of equipment used on large distribution vehicles. Duties and Responsibilities

• Installation, servicing and repair of tail lift, double deck, VBG, Shutter door equipment, limiting costs of stock used on contract accounts and maximising revenue generation in all areas.

• Optimise and maintain engineer van stock to maintain and enhance service delivery to MFS customers.

• Ensure relevant safety checks are carried out on the company van on a daily basis.

• Maintain product and customer requirements knowledge to meet ISO9002 standards at all times.

• To liaise with central control and/or the service centre with regard to job start and completion times, downtime and overtime authorisation; cost updates and customer purchase orders.

• Complete all relevant paperwork and on-line (PDA) requirements enabling central control and invoicing to maintain a high standard of customer interface - keeping the customer informed.

• Assist with planning of installations and undertake installations and commissioning.

• Ensure adherence to company procedures in line with company policies, Health & safety procedures and ISO9002 standards.

• Supervise Apprentices and / or Engineers in Training (EIT) where applicable.

• Ensure customer service is a priority, and conduct and corporate image (self, van, tools, spares) are first rate.

• Promote and generate business with existing or potential customers.

• Provide technical help or assistance to customers and other MFS personnel as required.

Experience:

• Extensive experience as a Tail lift/ Commercial Engineer.

• Commercial experience on electro-mechanical systems including engines, compressors and hydraulics.

• Able to work on own initiative in a safe and professional manner, maintaining customers' units and Company property to the highest standards.

Education / Certification

• Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including Maths and English Language.

• Understanding /experience in repairing /diagnosing of hydraulics.

• Welding certification.

• STE/Weight Test Certification.

• NVQ Level hydraulics/electrics ( desirable) or equivalent experience of working to manufacturers' standards.

Skills / Aptitudes:

• Clean driving licence.

• IT literate (Microsoft Office), able to use a palmtop computer (with training).

Job Purpose:

You will deliver the engineering activities within your allocated Operational team. Nature and Scope:

Working with the Client Delivery Manager, Lead Operational Engineers, other team members and managers, the post holder needs to be a team player able to work and within a pressurised environment to focus on the delivery of construction and maintenance works to time and quality, and also to our client's satisfaction

Qualifications:

Essential

• Senior Authorised Person as defined by the Distribution Safety Rules.
• Experience in distribution systems through the range 33kV to 400V.
• Security clearance for Client infrastructure Access.
• Medical & Drugs and Alcohol screening.
• Educated to HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Working knowledge of distribution HV Systems.
• Knowledge of Building Services Systems.
• Read drawings and understand content.
• Work in different environments.
• Identify problems, understand main issues and investigate alternatives
• Hold full driving licence.
• Use Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, MS Project and other custom software packages.

• Salary: Up to £36,129 per annum, depending on experience

You'll be supporting your own dedicated site as our client's first point of call for PPM and reactive M&E and other general building services maintenance. Tasks could include emergency light testing, fire alarms, lamp changes, basic plumbing, and fabric work.

You'll enjoy working autonomously, where you will be responsible for delivering planned and preventative maintenance, fault finding and repair work. Ideally, you will have the ability to confidently carry out a range of other mechanical tasks as well.

To be successful you will have:

Essential:

• 18th edition or HVAC experience


• "On the job" experience working in an M&E Engineer role or similar


• Strong communication skills and work ethic


• Awareness and knowledge of health & safety

Desirable:

• F-Gas qualification


• IOSH working safely qualification


• Plumbing experience


• Basic fabric skills


• 2391 testing inspection

Other Information

• The role will involve working 40 hours per week, Monday to Sunday (including bank holidays)


• 5 days on, 2 days off - Rotating shift pattern


• The role will also involve working 1 in 4 weeks on call
