Job Summary
Nestled with the YMCA Newark & Sherwood Activity & Community Village is our beautiful, purpose built nursery
We are looking for a Nursery Chef to work 9am – 2pm each day, producing high quality, nutritious, delicious food for babies and
children who attend our nursery
If you can prepare, cook and provide balanced & healthy meals in line with the requirements of the setting, taking in to account
the dietary, cultural and religious needs of the children in our care, please read on for more information.
Job Description
On a day-to-day basis you will:
* Be responsible for providing meals for children on a daily basis
* Be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, including fridges, freezers, cookers, etc.
* Ensure a high standard of personal hygiene is maintained
* Be responsible for keeping appropriate records
* Be aware of Health & Safety and Health & Hygiene Legislation
* Conform to Environmental Health requirements i.e. food handling, safe storage, standard of cleanliness and hygiene, dress code
* Operate within clear professional and confidentially boundaries while seeking to implement and uphold the rules, policies and
procedures and remain compliant with the data protection guidelines
About You
We are looking for someone with experience of preparing food in a commercial kitchen environment. If you have worked in an
educational catering setting before this would be a huge advantage. We
You will be passionate about providing nutritious home cooked meals for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, being mindful of the
requirements of the children. There is also scope for you to get involved with sessions for the children to learn about food
ingredients and food preparation.
You will enjoy working as part of a team, although the nature of this role is that you will spend a lot of time working alone in
the nursery kitchen. The job is physically demanding and requires someone who can use their initiative and manage their own time
within their shift.
