38.5 hours per week: Mon to Wed 8am to 4.30pm, Thurs 8am to 4pm, Fri 8am to 3.30pm

About the Role

As a Preventative Maintenance Engineer at SMT GB you will contribute to keeping their customers’ Volvo construction equipment running smoothly and efficiently by carrying out essential planned maintenance and servicing.

This is a field-based role where you’ll be working on large mobile plant such as wheeled loaders, articulated haulers, hydraulic excavators, and utility and road equipment, carrying out anything from a 500-hour service on an excavator to a routine check-up on a small digger.

Requirements:

• Experience in servicing and maintenance of heavy construction / agricultural plant is preferred however we will also consider HGV or light commercial vehicle maintenance
• Specific knowledge of Volvo construction machinery is not essential as full product training is provided.
• You’ll be a problem solver; capable of working independently with strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ideally, you’ll hold an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Plant Maintenance, Land Based Engineering, agricultural or HGV

Must have’s

• Relevant experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy plant
• Full UK driving licence
• Knowledge of safe working practices
• High standards and attention to detail
• Communication

Monday to Friday 38.5 hours per week

Based at our client, SMTGB’s modern Machine Preparation Centre (MPC) in Immingham, joining their team of engineers and technicians, you’ll be inspecting and carrying out fitting work on brand new Volvo heavy construction equipment such as wheeled loaders, ADT’s and hydraulic excavators ensuring they meet the customers’ requirements.

This role is a unique opportunity to apply your technical capability and develop your engineering skills through shadowing skilled engineers and on the job training and, in the future, gain your NVQ L3 in Plant Maintenance which will support your further advancement in plant maintenance and field service engineering within the business.

Activity includes:

Pre-delivery inspections
Installation of mechanical and electrical equipment such as hydraulics, lights, reversing cameras, seat belt warning systems and radios
Fitting new parts as requested by the customer such as buckets, hitches and grabs
Your skills/experience:

You may be at the beginning of your vehicle engineering career, have recently completed a vehicle maintenance apprenticeship or you’re an experienced vehicle fitter/technician.

A formal vehicle engineering qualification or apprenticeship is ideal however it’s not essential. What is important is your mechanic experience working with construction plant, Agricultural machinery, HGV’s or Light vehicles.

A full UK driving licence is essential.
