Senior AV Technician – Capitol Campus – Georgetown University
Job Overview
The Senior AV Technician, a member of the Georgetown University Capitol Campus Audiovisual and Instructional technology groups, oversees the technical operation and maintenance of all audiovisual systems supported by the Capitol Campus academic departments - including classrooms, event spaces and conference rooms in addition to other supported spaces during the evening shift.
As well, they oversee the exploration, research, purchase, inventory, installation and integration of equipment and services in supported facilities.
They employ their necessarily expert knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a wide variety of audiovisual systems, including lecture capture software, digital and analog audiovisual interfaces, video conferencing hardware/software, and television production equipment; and ably manage both small and large AV projects.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Director of Audio Visual Event Services, the Senior AV Technician engages with senior administrators, staff, faculty, students and vendors. Applying superior communication skills, they interact with nationally and internationally recognized VIP guests, high level University administration and alumni, and national and local press - in addition to every day interaction with faculty, staff and students.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or seven years of audiovisual experience, preferably in an educational, conference center, and/or hotel environment
- Ability to multitask, often working under stress to complete tasks that require complex set-up and operation
- Professional understanding of the following AV technologies - digital switchers, digital audiovisual systems and computer interfaces, video capturing software, Zoom and other video conferencing systems, digital video and audio editing software, light boards, cloud storage such as Google Apps and Box - and general Mac and PC proficiency
- Understanding of networked audiovisual systems
- Proficiency with Google productivity tools, including Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Drive
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office365 productivity tools, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Proficiency with room control systems, including Crestron and Extron systems
- Ability to maintain an excellent level of customer service with faculty, staff, students, and guests
- Willingness to accept flexible hours and overtime
The Senior AV Technician’s work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., and they must remain flexible throughout the week based on staffing needs.
Physical requirements for the job
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work from ladders and scaffolding
- Daily requirements to move items up to 10 pounds of weight
- Frequent requirement to move up to 50 pounds of weight
- Occasional requirement to move up to100 pounds of weight
- Ability to walk or stand with operation of controls
