Your new role


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a multi-skilled Maintenance Technician role.


Reporting to a Senior Maintenance Technician (depending on experience), you will be responsible for providing support in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of all plant and warehouse facilities over a three-shift rotation.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for maintenance of the assembly equipment and facilities as and when required.
• Respond to breakdowns as and when they occur on the assembly equipment on an urgent basis.
• Responsible for the recording and analysing of data from equipment failures.
• Responsible for liaising with and working with outside contractors.
• Responsible for planning and carrying out Planned Preventative Maintenance activities.
• Assist operations in improving uptime on the equipment by applying problem solving techniques.
• Working on bespoke assembly fixtures and conveyor systems, utilising knowledge of pneumatics, electrics, PLC systems (Siemens) and robotics.
• Flexible and willing to work in any area/shift, and support opposite shift when required.

What you'll need to succeed


A self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be conscientious, methodical, task oriented and have the ability to work on your own or as part of a team. You should be able to deliver results by working calmly while under pressure, be enthusiastic and show responsibility for the safety of yourself and others.

Experience/Skills

Previous experience in a maintenance / technical environment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential:

• Ability to work under pressure.
• Good interpersonal skills to help foster teamwork and achieve business objectives.
• Ability to cooperate with people of different levels inside/outside the company.
• Ability to identify and eliminate health, safety, ergonomic and environmental hazards in the workplace.
• Willingness to learn and develop, and to undertake any relevant training and self-development activities where required.
• Time served Apprenticeship, with an appropriate craft or technical qualification, level 3 or HNC or equivalent and ideally have 18th edition certification.
• Proficient with Siemens PLCs - both fault finding and writing / structuring new programs

Preferred:

• Other certified skills Fanuc robot controllers, MEWPs / working at height and forklift truck licence.
• Experience of managing others
• Use of CMMS for tracking and controlling at maintenance activities
• Previous experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment (ideally a JIT plant)
• Capable IT skills ( MS office suite incl. outlook, teams and excel)

Here at Serco we are looking for Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our FM department at HMP Dovegate a category B male establishment prison based on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border near Uttoxeter. The operational capacity is for 1100 prisoners and it takes a whole team of people to keep the facility safe, secure and in proper working order.


The key purpose of this role is to carry out routine HVAC and/or Mechanical Engineering work, preventative maintenance and repairs. You will ensure that various pre planned maintenance schedules are kept up to date and maintained as may be required. The role calls for leadership and setting visible standards of personal performance and accountability and the post holder is expected to function with a degree of independence.

Some of your other key accountabilities will include:


- Carry out fault finding and defect rectification to items of installed plant and equipment as may be defined and specified
- Assist in multi trade support of other members of the FM service team in completing work
- To escort contractors around the site as and when required in accordance with written procedures.
- To carry out the installation of new plant and apparatus as may be defined and specified.
- To carry out investigations into the performance of the plant and equipment installed in the site and to produce related reports and recommendations as may be required.
- To become familiar with the operation and maintenance of the various systems and equipment installed in the whole of the premises as defined or requested.



What you need to do the job

You are required to have HVAC and/or Mechanical Engineering Qualification (C&G, NVQ). You should be a member of relevant technical professional body desired.

They must hold an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent as this is essential and must have 3 years post qualification experience.

Lastly, because of the nature of the work, all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office and you must be able to pass a CRB Clearance and Security Clearance at CTC level (Counter Terrorism Check).

Here at HMP Dovegate, it takes a whole team of people to keep the facility safe, secure and in proper working order. Reporting into the Facilities Manager, you will work alongside a team of multi-skilled engineers within the Facilities Services team. As our new Escort, you will enable Contractors to perform tasks within the establishment in a safe and secure manner, ensuring that all Contractors and their tools are accounted for and managed securely at all times, and that all work meets regulations.

As this role forms part of our Facilities Management Team, you will be required to cover nightshifts and occasional weekend work as required and it is important that you are physically fit due to the physically demanding nature of the role. Working in Custodial, it is an intensely pressurised environment so you must also be confident in your ability to communicate effectively, with a high level of customer service skills. Other key duties include:

Assisting in multi trade support of other members of the FM team in completing related routine maintenance and repairs but within the capabilities of their ability, experience and training.

Taking responsibility for external areas

What you'll need to do the role

We are looking for someone who has previously worked in a similar role and will be able to hit the ground running upon starting. Although experience working in a security/custodial environment would be desirable, this is not essential. As you will be assisting in multi-trade support within the team, we would also consider relevant certifications or licences that will allow you to aid in other areas for e.g. Health & Safety knowledge, Electrical, Plumbing etc. Good I.T, Numeracy and Literacy skills will also be an essential part of the role on a day to day basis.

A key part of this role is to be pro-active and this will be achieved by commitment to customer satisfaction and striving for continuous improvement in your working approach, including the ability to prioritise workload, using your own initiative and working in a logical and methodical manner to tight timescales. You will be confident in your ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both in writing and orally. It is important that you have a flexible and a common-sense approach to work due to this role involving nightshifts and weekend work. Please note that you will also be expected to pass a full security check.

Main Responsibilities:
Support the Director of Employer Partnerships and Estates by leading the day-to-day operations and maintenance activities of the College’s Estate. To include both main teaching campuses in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stafford, as well as other group premises such as Axia and Gradbach.
To lead the operational managers for health & safety, caretaking & security, cleaning & facilities and catering & hospitality. To provide effective leadership to ensure all parts of the NSCG premises are presented to a high standard at all times, are fully serviced, clean & maintained and are safe & secure by ensuring no unauthorised persons enter the campuses and challenging anti-social behaviour.
To ensure externally contracted works provide best value for money and procurement regulations are adhered to. To liaise with and monitor the performance of contractors and report any concerns or potential problems. To exert financial control in accordance with the Group’s Financial Regulations and to promote the efficient use of resources within agreed budgets. Manage tendering exercises for the procurement of high value third party contracts.
To support the Director of Employer Partnerships and Estates in the ongoing development of large scale capital projects and the implementation of the college’s Estates Strategy. To include, contribution to the development of capital funding bids and provision of information for reports to Corporation and funding bodies as required.
Act as key point of contact with Group’s insurers for any estates and facilities insurance issues.
Required Skills and Experience:
Has relevant qualifications and/or experience in the operation of Building Services with particular emphasis on electrical and/or mechanical trades an appropriate qualification to meet the needs of the role
Has a good working knowledge of an automated Building Management System along with a good understanding and confidence using ICT
Demonstrates initiative and confidence to provide solutions to problems and to take appropriate actions.
Is willing to be called out to attend the premises in cases of emergency (including weekends and other times when the College is closed for business)
