Introduction
The Parliamentary Security Department (PSD) is responsible for physical and personnel security across both Houses of Parliament and provides support to Members and staff when away from the Estate. Its purpose is to keep Parliament safe and open for business.
The Role
This role reports to the Head of Security Operational Resilience and will have a portfolio of responsibilities in the Security Resilience strand including oversight of the Duties Team and workforce management, accommodation, uniform and equipment, as well as advising on the operational security aspects of construction and technical projects across the Estate.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Ensuring the team responds to requests from the Security Hub and Operational Delivery.
- Anticipating lead times and ensuring accurate reporting and processing of complement data and employee changes.
- Capturing and directing feedback appropriately from staff inside and outside PSD.
- Coordinating to ensure all operational staff have the necessary tools to perform their jobs effectively and safely.
- Providing leadership and managing risks associated with day-to-day activities, being the first point of escalation for the Duty Security Manager.
Shift Work This role will involve covering early and late shifts on a rostered basis and some weekend working. The exact times of attendance will be agreed with line management.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Ability to lead diverse teams by setting realistic objectives, driving performance, and upholding equality, diversity, and inclusion principles.
- Ability to coordinate a large, multi-skilled operational workforce in a 24/7 environment, proficiently using time and labour scheduling systems.
- Managing a portfolio of continuous improvement projects, leading change in an operational context, and procuring specialist equipment.
- Cultivating collaborative relationships with stakeholders, providing accurate advice on operational requirements, and explaining complex matters to non-technical audiences.
- Identifying threats and vulnerabilities, implementing mitigations, and making fast, justified decisions considering risk, stakeholder expectations, and organizational goals.
