Volunteer to help NHS patients in your region.

Do you live in Yorkshire or North Lincolnshire, have your own vehicle, and enjoy driving?

Would you like to play a vital role in the health and wellbeing of NHS patients, and become part of an incredible team?

Our non-emergency Patient Transport Service (PTS) helps thousands of people to reach their medical appointments every week, supported by our dedicated network of PTS volunteers as part of our Volunteer Car Service (VCS).

PTS volunteers provide non-emergency transport for patients who are able to walk but may need assistance and are eligible for transport, to and from hospitals and other healthcare settings. This can include patients attending hospital outpatient clinics, being admitted to or discharged from hospital wards or needing life-saving treatments such as chemotherapy or renal dialysis.

Due to the nature of the role, we strongly advise our volunteers to be double vaccinated against COVID-19 and are up to date with all boosters.

As a PTS volunteer you will receive full training, a uniform, a first aid kit and a mileage allowance of 45p per mile, with an additional 5p per mile allowance when transporting a patient. There will be an understanding between yourself and the Trust that you will aim to offer at least 2-3 days of volunteering per calendar month, in order to keep the training and information we will provide you with, relevant and up to date.

You don’t need to have any previous experience as full training will be given, just be caring, friendly and have a willingness to help.

An Ambulance Support Worker (ASW) responds to emergency calls alongside a paramedic, helping them to provide patients with potentially life-saving care and, where needed, getting patients to hospital. They attend every kind of accident and emergency, sometimes covering considerable distances, using expert emergency driving skills to get to the scene with the greatest speed possible.

The role of ASW can provide an excellent opportunity to further develop a career in healthcare and within Yorkshire Ambulance Service. You will be required to undertake a Level 3 Ambulance Support Worker Apprenticeship. This is a nationally recognised qualification that demonstrates your operational competency in the care field. Following successful completion of this it will enable you to benefit from career progression within the Trust, including development opportunities to become a HCPC registered paramedic.

Our non-emergency Patient Transport Service (PTS) helps thousands of people to reach their medical appointments every week, supported by our dedicated network of PTS volunteers as part of our Volunteer Car Service (VCS).

PTS volunteers provide non-emergency transport for patients who are able to walk but may need assistance and are eligible for transport, to and from hospitals and other healthcare settings. This can include patients attending hospital outpatient clinics, being admitted to or discharged from hospital wards or needing life-saving treatments such as chemotherapy or renal dialysis.

Due to the nature of the role, we strongly advise our volunteers to be double vaccinated against COVID-19 and are up to date with all boosters.

As a PTS volunteer you will receive full training, a uniform, a first aid kit and a mileage allowance of 45p per mile, with an additional 5p per mile allowance when transporting a patient.

You don’t need to have any previous experience as full training will be given, just be caring, friendly and have a willingness to help.

If you are successful at application stage, you will be invited to an informal interview over the phone on 25th July 2024. Please note this is more of an informal chat than an interview.

You will then be invited to a driving assessment and a 2-day induction course. Please see dates below:

The Advanced Paramedic Clinical Lead is a senior clinical post embedded in operational leadership teams.
