The purpose of an Engineering Manager at Muller is to lead the Blow Moulding Engineering team to deliver a best in class Engineering and Technical service, whilst supporting the safe delivery and improvement within manufacturing. Delivering in-Project Engineering including the development and execution of the engineering for the HyNet Project which will support the wider hydrogen portfolio of projects and achieving Cadent’s objective of operating hydrogen infrastructure to support decarbonisation of the UK.

This role delivers the Project’s Engineering to achieve a safe and efficient first of a kind at scale hydrogen pipeline network in the North West as part of the Investment and Future Energy function. The role will be a central point for collaboration and delivery with technical suppliers, industry groups, internal engineering stakeholders, the Project team and the selected Engineering Procurement, Construction and Commissioning Contractors.

The successful person must lead a culture of continuous improvement, optimising processes and ensuring value is understood for all of the activities they undertake.

The role will develop the in-Project multi-disciplinary engineering requirements and work with the independent Engineering Technical Authority within Cadent to formalise these within this Project and the wider portfolio. The role will then be central to the procurement, delivery, and assurance against these with the selected supply chain to ensure the delivery of a safe, reliable, and sustainable hydrogen pipeline network.

Please note that this position will be hybrid, allowing work from home but moving to a co-located office in the North West.




Key Responsibilities



- The delivery of the Project’s engineering scope to the agreed policies, processes, and standards for transporting hydrogen through the HyNet pipeline network
- Promote safe design of assets, following the company’s specifications and standards, identify weaknesses or oversights and implement plans to close gaps
- Develop and deliver against the Engineering Management and Assurance plans for the Project
- Prepare documents (for your area of responsibility) in line with project governance requirements
- Provide regular written and verbal updates on the status of projects to the Project Director and stakeholders. Also work collaboratively with the Project team to close out requirements from project governance reviews
- Be responsible for the development of the engineering scope of the key contracts to be procured including the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning Contractors
- Be responsible to review and consolidate engineering SME review of Detailed design documents, Supplier documents and EPCC documents issued for client review
- Working with others in the Project’s management team to co-ordinate the Engineering deliverables with the delivery Contractors and Consultants including the commercial, schedule and risk aspects of delivery
- Working with others to manage technical risk through all stages of the Project’s lifecycle including mitigation measures and the delivery of them through the supply chain or wider technical expertise
- Support the selection, qualification, procurement, and delivery of the long lead items required for the hydrogen pipeline network
- Technical support to the Development Consent Order during examination
- Lead Process Safety compliance to deliver the Formal Process Safety Assessments, Technical Safety and Functional Safety for the Project
- Be aware of the requirements under CDM 2015 and the deliverables of the Principal Designer for the Project. Also provide technical support to other hydrogen projects within Cadent to support efficient and systematic engineering execution leading to best outcomes for the business
- Ensure the engineering decisions made during detailed design are aligned with the Operations and Maintenance requirements for safe commissioning and operation






Skills and Experience


Ability to make decisions based on sound technical judgement. Understand project delivery requirements, governance, and control to deliver a safe, efficient, and reliable network within the boundaries of the Projects scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
Essential

- Chartered Engineer status
- Engineering experience working within gas transmission, oil and gas or petrochemical environment, managing teams and a commitment to process safety principles and practice.
- Specific knowledge of UK or international pipeline design and material standards (IGEM, GIS, API, ASME, ISO, ASTM)
- Experience in the commercial and contract management of suppliers
- Project delivery/team experience in pipelines and/or process plants
- Experience in leading multidiscipline teams/consultants as engineering manager or similar
- Experience in operational support, front-end loading, construction and/or commissioning phases of process system and pipeline projects

Desirable

• Significant experience with agile development methods & tooling e.g., Scrum, Kanban, Jira & Confluence, and experience of leading & working as part of an agile team as well as understanding the relationship between agile definitions and automated delivery.

• Understand the benefits of BDD & TDD and ensure engineers write upfront tests against team defined stories.

• Are industry aware and understand the importance of new technical approaches to evolve solutions and the experience of the team.

• Have proven understanding of the entire software development lifecycle and experience in end- to- end delivery of software products along with knowledge of modern software development toolsets including DevOps, Continuous Integration, and Continuous Delivery.

We are currently recruiting for an Engineering Project Manager based in Manchester to deliver best in class engineering projects - supporting the goals of the business vision, in alignment with the OGSM strategic plan.
Responsibilities within this role include:

- Management and adherence to the Muller project management process and investment process for technical investment within the Muller Group (major capitals and minor in non manufacturing environments)
- Ensure project budgets are closely controlled ensuring forecast spend is apparent at all times from concept to closure.
- Ensure all project reporting are adhered to through Muller systems and processes (Clarity, MPR, Monthly stakeholder and finance meeting as a minimum)
- Deliver of projects on time to the required quality to the designed specification as agreed and signed off by project specialists and stakeholders.
- Ensure all project completion and handover documentation are submitted to the relevant site teams.
- Ensure adherence to the change management process as listed in the Muller project management process.
- Support the wider project team to deliver the OGSM of the business.
- To directly or indirectly manage projects within the technical area of expertise.
- Have awareness of Total Cost of Ownership to deliver the appropriate fit for purpose solution.
- Understand the unique challenges of project management within a live FMCG environment and deliver best in class solutions.
- Play an active part in continuously improving our systems and business.
- Understand the impact of your own actions and others on achieving site/business OGSM.
- Support improvement activities / events within all areas.
- Ensure own activities are aligned to overall business objectives and know how current performance impacts the bottom line.

FM Conway is currently searching for an Engineering Apprentice to join our Structures division based at our Mandela Way office. This is a full time, permanent role, offering full training and a clear career pathway. As part of your role, you will complete Level 4 or Level 6 in Civil Engineering.

As our Engineering Apprentice, you will work in a supported learning environment to develop the skills and knowledge required to complete an Engineering Apprenticeship. You will work as part of the Structures team on various construction projects gaining knowledge and experience in a variety of areas of the industry. The role supports you with practical experience, educational learning and support attaining further professional certificates or memberships.

The duties of the Engineering Apprentice Role will include:

-Pursuing your studies to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours of a Structural Engineer

-Attending internal training diligently and playing a lead role in your upskilling and development in the workplace

-Working as part of the engineering team taking instructions from senior engineers

-Working with the engineering team to deliver works required efficiently and to a safe standard

-Working with the engineering team to develop your skills on engineering software to a proficient standard (e.g. BridgeStation)

-Working with the engineering team to understand and complete regular activities, such as contract reporting, inspections and administration

What skills and experience do you need?

We are looking for candidates who possess excellent relationship-building skills, are self-motivated, show initiative, and are resourceful. It is essential that you have a minimum of 48 UCAS points for the Level 4 entry requirements or a minimum of 96 UCAS points for the Level 6 entry requirements. The A-Levels need to include maths, and preferably a science (chemistry or physics).
