DUTIES:

• Participating in team huddles/meetings to manage and plan patient care.
• Interacting with both internal and external customers. Processing secure messages.
• Serves as area's communication liaison through the use of technology (multi-line telephone, computer, radio, and paging system).
• Establishing patient records, and/or routing patient records accurately and appropriately.
• Coordinating and scheduling patient care and services; demonstrating complete established administrative action for each order
• Scheduling appointments in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines.
• Monitoring pre-appointment requirements to assure readiness for patient visit service/procedure; verifying and updating patient demographics.
• Provide follow-up calls to patients to remind them of appointments and to reschedule when clinic is cancelled.
• Reviews schedules and ensures clinic slots are managed appropriately to maximize capacity making schedule changes, as necessary. The Advanced MSA refers all questions requiring immediate medical attention to appropriate health care team member.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The Lead MSA is assigned to a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model within the Marion VA Health Care System. The Lead MSA monitors work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflow. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: assuring coverage of all areas of responsibility; conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work and that staff are in compliance with applicable policies and procedures i.e., Scheduling Directive, Patient Information Collection Management (PICM), Insurance Capture, Pre-Registration, Open Encounter management, etc.; ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments by conducting and documenting routine scheduling audits; providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees; ensuring all training requirements are met; organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas; and acting as liaison between MSAs and staff in order to resolve day to day conflicts.

Other assignments include, but are not limited to:

• Provide training, mentoring and coaching to other frontline MSAs
• Assist with cancelling, rescheduling and notifying patients as requested
• Ensure coverage for PACT MSAs when on scheduled or unscheduled leave
• Maintain and assist with clinic access contingency plans by adjusting appointment times, location or dates
• Maintain and assist with cancelling and rescheduling patients for various clinics in supervisor's absence.

The Marion VA Health Care System is actively recruiting a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the Medicine Specialty Clinics within Nursing Service located in Marion, IL.

The incumbent will primarily be assigned to the Medical Specialty Department administering nursing care to adult and geriatric patients. This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments, as this is a 24/7 hospital. The incumbent may be required to rotate tours and duties during low/high census or complete administrative tasks established by the immediate supervisor.

The incumbent is responsible to ensure the highest possible quality of care is achieved and that a safe therapeutic environment is provided.

The incumbent provides care that is in accordance with established standards, hospital policies and procedures.

The incumbent communicates with patients, family members, internal and external co-workers and customers in a courteous, tactful, helpful, and understanding manner. He/she is administratively responsible to the Nurse Manager.

PLEASE NOTE: These positions require Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. If selected, Applicants will provide proof of current certifications prior to employment. Only BLS certification which included Automated External Defibrillator (AED) obtained from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or the Military Treatment Training Network (MTN) will be accepted.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding Federal holidays.
