The Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT) is based at the Avondale Unit, Royal Preston Hospital (RPH) and provides support to Lancashire Teaching Hospital (LTH) for service users referred via A&E (RPH) and/or The Urgent Care Centre (Chorley General District Hospital) and also from acute wards at both RPH and CDGH.

As a Band 6 you will be part of a Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) that provides support, assessments and guidance to the LTH, we offer training and supervision that ensures you have the knowledge and skills to ensure that you are able to assess and support service users presenting with Mental Health needs. • Delivering a range of interventions to individual patients and their families, as appropriate

Patients may present with a wide range of mental health and psychological problems. You will be required to make autonomous decisions, based on an analysis of complex presenting problems, while utilising effective clinical judgments about the most appropriate treatment, discharge and follow-up options. You will use higher-level communication skills, both written and oral and have an ability to engage with challenging and/or acutely distressed individuals, sometimes in potentially hostile and/or antagonistic situations.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Preston Com Mental Health Teams for two Band 6 practitioners. The successful candidates will work with service users who have a diagnosis of Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) who are currently on CMHT caseloads. You will deliver Structured Clinical Management (SCM) to a caseload of service users within the community setting. One post will sit within Preston East CMHT, the other will be split between Preston East and West CMHTs.

SCM is recognised as the gold standard of care for people with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD). It is evidenced based and recommended in NICE guidelines. SCM has been selected by the trust as the approach to implement within the personality disorder pathway. This is an exciting opportunity for you to develop specific skills in line with evidence based treatment and be involved in providing support for service user’s to recover, develop autonomy and no longer require secondary mental health services..

As well as direct face to face contact with the service user, and group work, it is expected that the post holder will be able to engage with the wider community system (A&E, police, inpatient and community settings) and support them to deliver evidence based practice.

Supervision is an integral part of this job you will be supported with regular access to supervision on a consistent basis.




1. Working for the local CMHT, clinically supervised by the Personality Disorder Managed Clinical Network, to provide high quality interventions for service user’s who have a diagnosis/present with difficulties associated with the diagnosis of Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD)
1. You will be aligned to work within a Com Mental Health Team (CMHT) providing Structure Clinical Management (SCM) for a caseload of service user’s. You will facilitate and lead groups to support the recovery of service users.

1. To undertake mental health assessments including risk assessments and be proficient in referring to other clinicians within the service or referring to other services/agencies where necessary.
1. Providing a communication structure between GP’s, IAPT and secondary MH services in LSCFT, non-statutory service to ensure the highest possible standards of patient care.
1. To provide advice and support for the CMHT Multidisciplinary Tm to deliver the highest standards of care for service user’s with a diagnosis of EUPD. This may include joint working at times.
1. You will receive regular clinical supervision from the PDMCN Specialist Practitioners and PDMCN Clinical Lead.
