The National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for the role of Research Assistant/Research Associate with the Heat Resilience & Performance Centre (HRPC), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The HRPC is a first-of-its-kind research centre, established at the NUS, to spearhead and conduct research and development to better enable the future challenges arising from rising ambient heat. Appointments will be made on a two-year contract basis, with the possibility of extension.

The Research Assistant/Associate who will play a key role in assisting in the development, execution and analysis of research aimed at addressing the challenges of training and operating in rising ambient temperatures. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary group comprising exercise and thermal physiologists, data scientists, biomedical engineers and researchers. This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to not only develop your expertise in research planning and execution, but also to be a part of the team looking to generate fundamental and forward-looking solutions to working in the heat. There are also opportunities to pursue a part-time PhD with HRPC.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The main areas of responsibilities of the role will include but not limited to the following:

• Working with research PIs and teams to develop new research ideas
• Performing literature searches, assimilating, and summarizing key information, as well as identifying knowledge gaps
• Designing and conducting relevant studies and surveys (qualitative and quantitative, including lab and outfield studies)

Qualifications

The Memory Aging & Cognition Centre (MACC) is a Research Center within the National University Health System funded by the Singapore National Medical Research Council that focuses on the study of dementia and cognitive impairment in the elderly. The MACC currently has 4 research themes on biomarker discovery, neuroimaging, clinical assessment and epidemiology.

There is an opportunity for a qualified candidate with interests in Neuroimaging to join the MACC in a Research Fellow role to study the neural basis of cognition and associated vulnerability patterns in neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular diseases. There is access to a 3T MR, MR-PET and retinal imaging.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform academic research on neuroimaging (CT, MRI, PET and retinal) and its association with cognition and other clinical outcomes in MACC observational and clinical trial cohorts.
2. Provide supervision and training to research associates / research assistants / students.
3. Validate neuroimaging biomarkers in Singaporean and global populations.
4. Supervise and perform neuroimaging rating and analyses for observational studies, clinical trials, and collaborative projects.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The main areas of responsibilities of the role will include but limited to the following:

• Working with research PIs and teams to develop new research ideas
• Performing literature searches, assimilating, and summarizing key information, as well as identifying knowledge gaps
• Designing and conducting relevant studies and surveys (qualitative and quantitative, including lab and outfield studies)
• Establishing and managing large databases
• Interpreting and analysis of data
• Generating reports and present data to relevant stakeholders
• Contributing to conference presentations and write papers for submission to peer reviewed journals
• Collaborating across teams, contributing to multiple research projects at once

Qualifications

A minimum qualification of a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, or equivalent. Candidates with strong data science and analytics background and keen to delve into heat health research are strongly encouraged to apply as well). Experience in statistics, data analysis and visualisation software (e.g. SPSS, Power BI), and computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, data management and online meeting tools) would be required as well.

In addition, the role will require the following job relevant experience or attributes:

• Keen interest in heat health and human performance
• Proficient in qualitative research
• Proficient in data analysis tools in quantitative research
• Two or more years of research work experience would be an advantage
• Proven knowledge of data collection methods
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Good presentation skills and ability to write research reports for publication in reputable journals

The team of Prof Loh Kian Ping invites application for a postdoctoral fellow/research fellow working in condensed matter physics and two dimensional (2-D) materials devices.

Requirements

The candidate should have a PhD in Physics and should have worked in clean room as well as familiar with

1. the lithography of nanodevices, i.e. hall bar, field effect transistors and/or
2. CVD growth of ultrathin 2D materials
3. Dry transfer and stacking of 2D materials

The candidate should have a strong track record in 2-D material growth by CVD, publishing in the area of quantum topology physics concerning 2-D materials, or in the spintronics (spin Hall effect) of 2-D materials. The candidate should be adept at using low temperature, magnetic field transport system.

Job Description

The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Research Fellow to join our team and contribute to our ongoing research projects related to thermal management of flexible electronics. You will play a key role in designing and fabricating flexible electronic devices, with a specific focus on solving challenges related to overheating and heat dissipation.

Responsibilities:

• Design and fabricate integrated thermal management system for flexible electronics devices, including RF devices.
• Conduct thermal simulations to identify potential thermal issues and optimize the heat dissipation capabilities of the devices.
• Develop and implement innovative thermal management materials, structures, and approaches to address overheating challenges in flexible electronics.
• Explore and evaluate new materials for efficient heat transfer, storage, and dissipation in flexible electronic devices.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to integrate thermal management solutions into the overall device design and fabrication process.
• Perform experimental characterization of thermal properties and performance of flexible electronic devices using appropriate measurement techniques and equipment, including IR thermal imaging and thermal reflectance system.
