Position Overview

Ninety percent of real estate development over the next decade will focus on existing buildings, according to sustainability experts. Reusing and renovating these structures through faster, more cost-effective, and sustainable methods will be one of the main challenges in designing the built environment. Can we apply modern methods of robotic construction to automate these renovation efforts, while also integrating sustainable approaches such as: material circularity, material passports, and adaptive reuse?

As an intern with Autodesk Research, you will investigate the most impactful use cases for these industrialized renovation efforts. You will use 3d scanning/sensor technology and robotic platforms to prototype automated methods of collecting building data, establishing a foundation for how we renovate and repurpose the existing building stock. You will be part of a global team of researchers specializing in robotics, software engineering, and sustainable architecture, with access to the facilities and expertise of staff at Autodesk’s Boston Technology Center for prototyping and validating your proposed solutions.

Responsibilities

• Be an active member of a team exploring new and advancing areas of research in the realm of Industrialized Construction and Net-Zero Buildings

• Participate in iterative design, testing and development sprints to refine research

• Present research to team; create report or academic paper

Minimum Qualifications

About the role:

THIS IS AN UNDERGRADUATE Summer only INTERN position located in the Greater Boston area with the ability to sit in our office in Boston in a hybrid capacity. Only full-time students will be considered.

Research Study LPN, General Internal Medicine

Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 16 hours per week, hybrid

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Treat-to-Target Serum Urate versus Treat-to-Avoid Symptoms in Gout Trial (TRUST trial) will test two different treatment strategies for gout. The trial will require two part-time research LPNs who will each manage participants in one of the two treatment strategies. The LPNs will be responsible for following a treatment strategy algorithm that includes gout education, lifestyle counseling, and pharmacologic management. Training on the treatment strategy algorithm will be conducted before any patients are enrolled.

The position will require 40% effort for a minimum of 2-3 years. There will be a mixture of virtual visits and on-site visits at Boston Medical Center. The individual will be actively involved in subject recruitment, data collection, adverse event monitoring and reporting, and ensuring compliance with human subjects’ regulations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensures that established protocols are implemented, maintains protocol integrity, monitors participant’s status assuring safety, and plays a significant role in the education of clinical trial participants.
• Working with the PIs and the study coordinator, determines whether patients meet protocol inclusion criteria and assists with research subjects recruitment including obtaining informed consent.
• Establishes a therapeutic relationship with patients and families, providing the needed support to facilitate understanding of the disease process and the clinical trial, including information relative to study medication, study goals, and objectives.
• Reviews intake assessment with clinical team to confirm patients' medical conditions, readiness, and eligibility for study enrollment as a research participant. Establishes an appropriate plan of care for patient based on the study’s guidelines.

OTHER

• Provides patient education regarding protocol participation and provides additional information to participants to ensure their understanding and adherence to the program. 
• Responsible for scheduling of follow-up research study appointments for study participants which may require reminder phone calls, mailouts, or home visits.   
•  Orders, obtains (i.e., performs phlebotomy)and evaluates appropriate lab and diagnostic tests according to study protocols in order to determine the  treatment and follow-up plan for each study subject.
• Documents adverse events and severe adverse events, and follows up with the research team and the participant’s clinical team as necessary.​

This position is funded by a 2 - 5 year grant. There may be opportunity beyond this grant funding for position integration into ongoing operations.

• Graduate of an accredited program of practical nursing.

Assignments are designed to develop a practical knowledge of equipment, facilities, and systems, and their interrelationships within a particular engineering discipline.
 

Responsibilities:

• Assists with a variety of civil engineering tasks to complete remedial designs for hazardous and solid waste projects including barrier walls (slurry techniques, sheet piles), sediment remediation, landfill, excavation, and solidification projects. 
• Assist in developing design drawings and writing technical specifications.
• Take part in providing construction oversight, construction quality assurance, and field engineering field assignments.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Team Coordinator is administratively responsible for the planning, supervision, coordination, and direction of the day-to-day operations of the Primary Care Clinic. Ensures that the clinics meet their standard for performance and service to patients; promotes continuity of care; enhances the growth of managed care; patient satisfaction, customer service, physician and team satisfaction, patient flow and resolves operational issues and problems.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Hires, trains, motivates, evaluates, and disciplines the clerical staff as necessary.

• Supervises direct reports in day-to-day operations. Assigns work and monitors staff workload to maximize efficiency.

• Assumes overall responsibility for monitoring patient flow, timely registrations, and patients’ wait time. Reassigns staff as needed to optimize patient flow.

• Ensures appropriate clerical staff coverage; maintains time and attendance records for staff, including hours worked, leaves and vacation/sick time.

• Submits weekly payroll for clerical staff to the Practice Manager.

• Establishes objectives and standards for performance; monitors subordinates performance and ensures that departmental objectives are met.

• Develops annual training and development plans in conjunction with each employee; makes appropriate arrangements for training.

• Ensures that clerical staff is maintaining the integrity of the data. Ensures that all requirements for billing, such as encounter forms, referrals for managed care patients, and other administrative requirements of third party payors are met.

• Ensures that information entered into the hospital’s Patient Information System is accurate and complete.

• Responsible for copayment collection and adherence to accounting guidelines and policy for copayment. Ensures that provider schedules are maintained appropriately. Ensures compliance by providers with established guidelines for clinic cancellations and modifications.

• With the Medical Directors and Practice Manager, monitors, revises, and makes recommendations on clinical schedules and space to ensure efficient patient flow.

• Holds daily meetings (or “huddles”) with staff to discuss daily plan, any open issues and focus for the day.

• Participates in Clinic Management Team meetings. Works with team to establish departmental policies and procedures, problem solve, and plan future strategies. Monitors patient satisfaction.

• Projects a positive, supportive attitude to patients and staff.  

• Solves issues, such as, but not limited to, assisting patients with special needs (including persons with disabilities and those needing translation services), dealing challenging or disruptive patients, patients’ complaints, conflict resolution and weather-related issues.

• Provides coverage for registration and scheduling clerks as necessary.

• Serves as liaison to managed care plans (BCBS, Tufts, Medicare, etc.).

• Maintains records of expenditures and reviews requisition requests.  

• Coordinates housekeeping, maintenance, and repairs for the clinic; ensure all areas, equipment and furnishings are kept clean and in good repair.

• Maintains inventory system of supplies.

• Performs other related duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of formal education and experience) is required.

EXPERIENCE:

• Work requires at least three years of full-time experience in a healthcare business or medical office setting.

• Supervisory experience in a healthcare business or medical office setting is strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Demonstrated technical competency using standard hospital computer systems including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), web browsers, and hospital registration systems (such as, IDX, SDK, Logician, etc.).

• Ability to mentor, guide and motivate direct reports through demonstration of best practices and leading by example.

• Requires knowledge of clinical operations, hospital financial and human resources policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of medical terminology.

• Excellent English grammatical skills with the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and management skills, including the ability to set priorities, efficiently delegate, and motivate staff to complete assigned work.

• Ability to analyze and solve problems in a systematic, logical, and timely manner.

• Must be able to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information
