How you'll make a difference
Vinney Green is a 24 bedded unit set in grounds of almost 5 acres incorporating two living units, a sports/education facility, and an administration centre. It is a 24 hours, 7 days a week facility requiring a high level of internal organisation and procedures for dealing with all eventualities.
Working with the Business Information Officer, you will assist with the monitoring and development of information and to provide administrative and clerical support for the policy monitoring functions of the Unit.
What will you be doing?
• It will be your responsibility to provide administrative support to the home’s managers.
• You will support the Business Support Officer in the production, and maintenance, of the Youth Justice Board’s monthly statistics, and Vinney Green’s management report.
• Acting as the primary point of contact for the home, you will deal with enquiries and information requests.
• It will be key for you to undertake relevant research and analyse data for reports.
• Regularly, you will administer the Unit’s CCTV system ensuring that critical incidents and relevant accidents are recorded so they can be examined.
• You will assist the Business Information Officer with the administration of the safe recruitment of staff including reference and DBS checks.
What we need from you
• It is essential that you have a minimum of 3 grade C’s at GCSE (or equivalent qualification) including English and maths, or you will be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of skill.

The role

As an Information Assurance Specialist, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary where you will support the information assurance, information security and accreditation activities for all Digital Solutions projects, including the infrastructure, applications and information associated with delivery of customer information assets and IT Services.

You will be a proven practitioner, in security/assurance in a Government/MOD or commercial environment, including information risk management and the writing of cyber security cases.

As an Information Assurance Specialist your responsibilities will include:

• Information risk management and risk mitigation.
• Coherently articulating security positions of our IT systems.
• Providing innovative solutions to information security challenges.
• Engaging with stakeholders across the business and MOD to ensure continuous improvement.
• Maintaining supporting documentation with an eye for detail.

36 hour per week (Monday-Friday). We are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements with alternative patterns of working including office or working from home opportunities - please ask at your interview. We offer hybrid working with 2-3 days in the office per week.

Essential experience of the Information Assurance Specialist:

• Relevant experience of the IT Domain, including knowledge of Government IA policy and process such as JSP440, JSP604 and NCSC IA guidance
• Information assurance management, liaising with internal and external IA teams to ensure adherence to relevant IA policy, and input into 3rd party assurance activities
• Ability to demonstrate the application of contextualised risk management in the application of technical/procedural/physical security controls within the risk/cost/benefit space.
• Security documentation management such as annual review and update of related IA documents such as RMADS, Security Cases, SyOPs, Business Impact Assessments, Privacy Impact Assessments, Risk Registers, DART/Oculus entries, Risk Balanced Cases, Information Asset Owner forms, Supplier Assurance Questionnaires

Qualifications for the Information Assurance Specialist:

• Hold a relevant Information Security professional qualification or equivalent experience.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC and potentially DV security clearance for this role. You must be a sole UK National.

Software Engineering at Babcock

Many of the systems that we create are driven by our own high-performance software. From harsh environments to complex architectures and strict information assurance, our software needs to be proven, reliable and fully integrated.
Over the course of the 5-year programme, you will gain extensive experience in software engineering, working in modern design offices and within practical lab environments, test and integration facilities and manufacturing workshops.

Placements during the programme could include Submarine Systems, Surface Ships, Communications and Security, Command and Control and Electronic Warfare.

You could be working on a huge variety of different projects. You could focus on something as small as an audio console for a communications project. Or you could work on something as large as a handling system on a world-class ship.
Whatever you work on, you may be closely involved in the design, specification, implementation, and testing of software and associated systems.

Whilst the programme is predominantly based in Bristol you will be encouraged and supported to undertake off-site placements at some of our other business units around the UK.

Your education/training:

• At the end of your apprenticeship, you'll have earned a BSc Honours Degree in Digital and Technology Solutions and gained rich work experience within your chosen specialism.
• From undertaking general project management activities including project planning, resourcing, budgeting, document management and configuration control, you will have also gained valuable project management skills.
• Your technical training will be supplemented with in-house training courses and soft skill training to help you develop your personal and team working skills.

• A minimum of 5 GCSEs, all at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).

The role
As an Information Assurance Specialist, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. An opportunity to make a real difference at a time when UK Defence Cyber Security transitions to a secure by design approach. You will be integral to how this new approach matures, and how it is embraced by both the UK Defence and Suppliers.

Day to day, you'll be a member of the Mission Systems Information Assurance Team; the team provide support to a range of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) system design, integration, and support projects. The principal tasks are to provide high quality, HMG and MOD standards compliant IA advice and guidance to the wider Systems Engineering and Design teams, produce bid proposal and project IA deliverables, manage project system security accreditation processes, and its migration through Secure by Design in accordance with the change to MOD Policy.

This role is fully remote with occasional requirement to travel into the office based in Bristol, South West.

Essential experience of the Information Assurance Consultant:

• Previous experience of supporting ICT projects to deliver to JSP 604 compliance
• Working knowledge HMG IA Standards, NCSC IA Publications, and MOD JSP 440
• Experience of International Standards including ISO27000 and NIST Cyber Security Framework
• Providing customer-facing IA advice and guidance
• Delivering both tactical and strategic solutions focused around customer priorities
