Your new role
You will be working as a Team leader, this is a mobile position so you will be expected to manage a team of 3-5 operatives with day-to-day repairs and maintenance within the properties across the region, covering Huddersfield - Whitby and more, a van is included in this role as a mobile team leader.
What you'll need to succeed
You must have:
Trade knowledge (multi trade knowledge is preferable)
NVQ or C&G is preferred
Clean UK Full Drivers Licence
Must pass a Basic DBS
Must be able to provide two work related references

As a Surface Maintenance Mechanic Leader, the purpose of this position is to serve as a working leader of three or more Surface Maintenance Mechanics, WG-5801-10. Performs mechanic duties involving maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, inspection, and/or overhaul of a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment. Provides technical subordinate guidance and group leadership to employees on the team.

• Assigns work orders to specific crewmembers and selects workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Assures that there is enough work to keep the work crew busy.
• Checks work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisor's instructions, work orders, and established shop procedures on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines; and directs or advises other workers to follow supervisor's instructions and to meet deadlines.
• Troubleshoots, performs maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles.
• Troubleshoots equipment and diagnoses the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks and/or uses test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges, and computer diagnostic tools.
• Removes and disassembles engines and major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems.
• Independently performs repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing defective parts of components and systems such as injectors, leaking wheel cylinders, corroded mufflers, fuel tanks, brake cylinders and worn brake shoes, voltage regulators, generators, injector pumps, and fuel pumps.
• Conducts readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity.
• May maintain and repair electronics communication equipment by removing and replacing components and elements.
• Assists in the maintenance of production reports and records, and makes recommendations to the supervisor.

What to Expect

• Serves as assistant to a higher-grade maintenance worker/mechanic in maintaining all equipment and facilities in optimum operating condition. Assists in the performance of one or more trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, painting, and other related trades.
• Assists maintenance workers in performing general maintenance, repair and/or alterations to such items as: doors, floors, floor covering, walls, ceiling, windows, electrical switches, receptacles and light fixtures, commodes, wash basins and showers.
• Assists in performing repair of recreation/mess equipment and appliances and other related maintenance and/or custodial duties.
• Assists in the performance of simple plumbing repairs, replacing faucets or washers; repairing toilet flushing devices; clearing clogged drains, and tightening leaking pipe joints.
• Assists in the performance of light maintenance on air conditioning units and intermediate maintenance on equipment in the facility.  May assist in the performance of minor electrical repairs to switches and boxes, and replace electric lights, fuses and fixtures.
• Assists in the preparation of ball fields, setting up of bleachers, and maintaining parks and associated grounds maintenance.
• Drives motor vehicles that have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 10,000 pounds and up to 26,000 pounds for delivery of materials, to and from worksites, warehouses, dumps, etc.
• May perform routine operator maintenance.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
