Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) established in September 2010 is a partnership between Imperial College London and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Antimicrobial drug resistance is a growing an alarming problem that poses serious challenges to the existing public health infrastructure of Singapore and of the rest of the world. Microbial pathogens are becoming more and more difficult to treat as they steadily gain partial and full resistance to last-line antibiotics.

Recalcitrant infections can add enormous costs and strains to health care systems that are already stressed. This is especially a concern in Singapore, where between now and 2030, the health care system will need to accommodate the costs associated with a population that will undergo an unprecedented age shift in which the number of residents aged 65 years or older will increase threefold. Altogether, there is an urgent need to develop new alternatives or compatible therapies to combat the growing problem of AMR.

Key Responsibilities:
