Your Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Registered Building Inspector, validated to either Class 2 Domestic, 2 General or 3 Specialist, to join our team. The successful candidate will have relevant Building Control experience and possess a thorough knowledge of building regulations and legislation.
You will undertake a varied workload of plan assessments and site inspections and will investigate reports of dangerous buildings and other related Building Control activities.
All our team of inspectors are currently validated and registered with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR). Our borough’s unique mix of domestic, commercial, industrial, and high-rise residential workload will afford the opportunity to build upon your current experience and allow progression to a higher class of validation (should you wish to pursue career advancement). Ongoing training and support, together with a programme of CPD (through the LABC) will be provided as you look to progress your career, or maintain your current level of validation.
Key responsibilities
Your duties as the Registered Building Inspector will include:
- Managing a portfolio of construction development sites, including non-domestic low risk schemes (including new applications).
- Providing accurate information, advice, and professional support to businesses and/or individuals, in accordance with the inspection framework.
- Supporting other members of the team, when required, in carrying out their duties.
- Liaising and/or consulting external agencies, stakeholders, statutory undertakers, and members of the public as necessary to ensure a seamless approach to the provision of guidance and service delivery
- Positively contributing to a strong, efficient, and effective performance culture with a focus on service excellence.
NB: The above list of duties is neither exclusive nor exhaustive. The post holder will be expected to undertake other duties commensurate with the responsibility level of this post, as directed by the section head or his/her representative.
About You
You will already have some considerable experience in Building Control, either in the public or private sector, and understand the main duties required of a Registered Building Inspector.
You will hold Registered Building Inspector status at either Class 2 (Domestic); 2 (General) or 3 (Specialist) and will preferably possess a Professional Building Control Qualification (e.g. RICS, CABE).
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and negotiation skills with a strong focus for service excellence, alongside strong organisation and prioritisation skills.
You will possess a comprehensive understanding of the key legislation related to Building Control, including the Building Act, the Building Safety Act and the Building Regulations.
The successful candidate will have a willingness to work as part of a professional, forward-thinking team, who work together to carry out the objectives of the Building Control section.
As you will need to drive to different locations to carry out your duties, you should hold a full UK driving licence.
You will possess the IT skills necessary to deal with the electronic processing of plans and email communication with our stakeholders.
