Director, Learning Experience - Business & Helicopter Aviation Training, Global

CAE seeks a creative Leader to join our civil Business & Helicopter Aviation Training group as a global people leader.

• This global leadership role is responsible for several elements of continuous improvement in business and helicopter aviation which impact the Customer training experience.

• These elements include, but are not limited to Air Carrier onboarding and management, Instructor/Examiner operational qualification support, Customer end-to-end training solutions and CAE product advocation for business aviation.  

• The Leader will cultivate internal and external relationships with Operations, Customer Experience Teams, Civil Digital Teams, Marketing and Communications Teams.

• This Team will support Customer end-to-end technical training solutions navigating regulator and Operator challenges globally.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Management of Air Carrier training process including onboarding and ongoing management of the Customer operational regulatory requirements including end-to-end Customer solutions.

• Operate with a high-degree of autonomy supporting business development, Customer sales initiatives, operations and product to drive CAE’s high-tech company culture.

• Perpetual assessment of business interests to optimize, enhance the experience and support our Customers with complimentary digital solutions to CAE corporate strategy.

• Support Operations Team and collective objectives and key results (OKR’s) driving a complimentary strategy, supporting as needed.

• Support various projects which support implementation/adoption, evolution and objectives of the business.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Highly desirable to hold or have held an ICAO ATPL certificate.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualifications.

• Experience working with an Air Carrier – airline or charter company in a capacity more than a Pilot, preferably in Management.

• Familiarity in aviation, particularly business aviation to compliment change management activities.

• Preferred experience in multiple Civil aviation disciplines (Civil) and recent operational experience desired.

• Effective communicator and highly proficient with MS Office suite and modern business-enabling tools.

• Experience as a People Manager, leading a global and diverse Team managing multiple projects simultaneously.

• Maintain corporate governance and regional communication to the satisfaction of CAE internal stakeholders.

• Support strategic sales initiatives being Customer-facing representing the Company in a positive regard.

• There is a preference for the incumbent to live within commutable distance to one of CAE’s Civil Training Centers (Dallas, Tx, Las Vegas, NV, Savannah, GA, Whippany, NJ, Orlando, FL or Montreal, Canada).

Role and Responsibilities

In this role, the Apprentice Simulator Technician will be expected to help ensure that the in-service simulation training equipment meets the contractual availability.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Learn and be able to prepare the simulation training equipment for daily operation using standard operational readiness checks.
• Learn and perform preventative maintenance in accordance with the published schedules for each training device. 
• Learn and carry out Qualification Test Guide (QTG) according to the published monthly schedules for each training device.
• Learn and load appropriate exercise scenarios and other tasks required to prepare for specific training sessions.
• Be taught to effectively check reported snags, verify simulator operation and rectify basic operational and maintenance snags.
• Be taught and assist in the restoration of failed equipment or refer such failures to more qualified/experienced staff.
• Learn and perform housekeeping functions and complete journey logs at the start and finish of scheduled training sessions.
• Be taught and assist other senior engineers with maintenance, problem resolution and certification issues.

Qualifications:

• Ability to gain a technical college qualification. 
• Basic computing hardware, software and operating systems knowledge and experience.
• Interest and ideally some experience in mechanical and electrical engineering systems.
• Basic understanding and interest in aviation and aircraft systems.
• PC skills (Word, Excel, etc.).
• Fluency in English.

Summary of the Job:

At this level, the Simulator Technician III performs complex assignments in office, on site, field, and laboratory. Projects may be of experimental or design nature.  The Simulator Technician III has demonstrated the ability to solve a variety of complex simulator and/or aircraft systems problems. The ideal candidate meets the desired skills and experience listed below and fosters a positive work environment thru his/her strong teamwork and reliability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks on the simulators and associated simulator systems.
• Assist in diagnosing and correcting problems on the simulators and associated simulator systems.
• Diagnose and correct complex problems on the simulators and associated simulator systems.
• Utilize Maintenance Management System to record and track maintenance activities.
• Train technicians in basic skills and provide technical training for other technicians.
• Complete all designated training activities.
• Actively pursue continued professional growth and training.
• Perform preflight and post flight on all simulators.
• Perform visual alignments.
• Run and Evaluate QTG results.
• Assist Engineering Team with modifications, design changes, and software enhancements.
• Perform refurbishment and hardware modifications.
• Perform software changes to correct problems on the simulators and associated simulator systems.
• Identify and coordinate efforts to correct training deficiencies.
• May assist Group Lead in day-to-day operation of maintenance activities.
• Learn and comply with CAE Quality Management System.
• Provide customer service support and address customer needs in a timely manner.
• Perform logistics duties, including parts received, repair, and testing/validation.
• Perform housekeeping functions to maintain the simulators as required.
• Perform administrative tasks as required.
• Perform tasks to support the technical services group as required.
• Flexibility to work the required shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

• Demonstrated proficiency with all types of test equipment.
• Demonstrated proficiency with software diagnostics and utilities on at least 1 type of simulator.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills
• Run and evaluate required FAA ATG / QTG tests.
• Demonstrated ability to perform in-depth analysis and research for hardware modifications and upgrades.
• Demonstrated ability to assist the Engineering Team with modifications, design changes, and software enhancements.
• Demonstrated ability to assist with the development and delivery of technical training for other technicians.
• Demonstrated ability as the “Technical Expert” on at least one major simulator system (i.e. motion, visual, aircraft systems, etc.).
• Pursue knowledge and skills to enhance ability as a technical expert. Demonstrated knowledge of MS-Office tools and suite

• Lift at least 50 pounds

• Bend and stand for long periods of time
• Move/work within confined spaces

EDUCATION REQUIRED

2-year technical degree or equivalent related training

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

5 years direct simulator experience with at least 3 years of relative simulator experience per assigned location

Role and Responsibilities

In this role, the Simulator Flight Instructor I will be responsible for the delivery of training primarily in a flight simulator or other training device, but also when required in ground school, in accordance with the appropriate regulatory and customer requirements.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Delivery of instructor led training / Part 142 training to CAE customers
• Delivery of ATP/CTP courses – ground school and sim sessions on the A320 platform..
• Conduct pre and post flight simulator briefings in a thorough, professional manner and in accordance with CAE standards.
• Conduct each simulator session in accordance with the CAE, aircraft manufacturer or the customers’ Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). 
• Provide simulator flight instruction for the issue of licenses, type ratings and certificates.
• Complete the appropriate client training records accurately and comprehensively to ensure client understanding and a seamless handover to other instructors.
• Recommend, where necessary, remedial training for a client who is not meeting the required training progress.
• Record simulator usage and discrepancies using the appropriate procedures.
• Track the validity of instructional qualifications to ensure that he/she remains qualified to deliver training at all times in accordance with contractual commitments. 
• Act as subject matter expert in creation of curricula and courseware when required.
• Accept training for examiner responsibilities when required by the Head of Training.
• Act as invigilator when examination is conducted

Qualifications 

• Should be typed on the A320 platform. Need not be current.
• At least 2 years as part of a FAA Part 121 program.
• Ready to work night shifts as required by simulator availability.
• Bachelor degree in job-related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
• Passes in all Airline Transport Pilots License written exams.
• Minimum experience required by the Regulatory Authority issuing instructor rating.
• Hold an existing instructor qualification or -rating issued by a Regulatory Authority desirable.
• Meet the relevant minimum qualification and experience requirements for qualification as a Simulator Instructor.
• Hold or has held a professional pilots’ license.
• A working knowledge of the relevant aviation regulations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain strong customer orientation under adverse circumstances.
• Strong focus on quality with a continuous drive towards process improvement & customer satisfaction.
• Ability to concentrate and work in a fast paced environment. 
• Readily accept changes and adjust accordingly.
• Fluency in English
