About the role

This job offers an exciting growth opportunity with a very competitive Total Rewards package that includes:

The expected salary range for this position is 107,600 - 177,700. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive plan, subject to meeting the requirements of the plan and dependent on company and individual performance.
This is a good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position. The final salary figure will take into account a variety of factors including experience, ability and location. Covanta is committed to paying its staff equitably, and these ranges should not be considered career salary limits or caps.
Covanta Hempstead located in Westbury, NY, has a great opportunity for an highly motivated leader and Shift Supervisor to join our growing team!
The Shift Supervisor reports directly to the Operations Manager and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the plant during an assigned shift.
Position Requirements:
· The Shift Supervisor will supervise the personnel assigned to their shift providing technical and safety training while directing their actions as necessary. During the assigned shift, they will routinely tour the plant and oversee the activities of the operators.
· The Shift Supervisor will be responsible for approving all requests for removing equipment from service for maintenance, or other purposes, and for ensuring that the equipment is properly cleared and tagged in accordance with plant procedures.
· The Shift Supervisor monitors and ensures efficient boiler, turbine and steam plant operations in accordance with all Safety, Environmental and Standard Operating Procedures. In the event of emergencies or unusual operations, the Shift Supervisor will direct or personally perform the required operations or corrective actions, coordinating the activities of all personnel involved.
· During the night time hours, weekends and holidays the Shift Supervisor will assume responsibility for the plant's well-being in the absence of the Operations Manager and the Facility Manager.
Qualifications:
· Qualified candidates must have at least (5) years' experience in power, resource recovery plant operations or equivalent experience/training.
· Candidate backgrounds should include hands-on shift and supervisory experience with high pressure boilers and electric generation equipment.
· A High School Diploma and formal technical and/or utility operator training is required. A B.S. in Engineering with equivalent experience and training will be considered.
· Applicants must hold a valid QRO Certification or can obtain the written within six months and site specific within two years of hire.
· You must be legally authorized to work in the country where this job is located and not require any sponsorship assistance from Covanta.
