Introduction to the role

This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated early career mover to join Eku’s rapidly growing battery energy storage business and support the transition to a low carbon, sustainable global economy. Eku is a specialist battery developer and long term asset owner, with a strong track record of project delivery and responsible capital management.

In this role, you will be working within the Investment Management team to commercialise and finance Eku’s Japan battery portfolio. Reporting to the Investment Manager, you will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across the business (including development, technical and markets functions) to build the investment case for individual projects and broader capital raising initiatives. The role will have a transaction based focus, leveraging your strong deal management and financial modelling abilities to drive high quality execution.

This role is well suited to someone with 2+ years experience in a fast paced transaction advisory or principal investing type environment, looking to move into the dynamic intersection of strategic/developer and asset/funds management work. In a small and high performing team at the forefront of the energy transition, you will have significant opportunity for growth and development. While the primary focus of this role is Japan project execution, opportunities for collaboration and work across the business globally (including Japan, UK, Italy and new markets) are open to the candidate’s interests.

Responsibilities of the role

·        Develop and own the business case for new projects and capital raising initiatives with a focus on valuation and risk/return optimisation, presenting recommendations to the Eku management team IC and shareholder forums to ultimately seek investment approval;

·        Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including development, technical and markets functions) to align financial inputs and risk considerations;

·        Construct and maintain the financial model for Japan projects across the development life-cycle through to FID and execution of any external financing;

·        Design and carry out robust financial analysis to support negotiation of key contracts and commercial decision-making generally;

·        Deal management of project debt financing processes, coordinating due diligence workstreams, liaising with and managing third party advisors including financial advisors;

·        Transaction support for acquisition of existing assets or developments on a select basis;

·        Liaise with the global Investment Management team to knowledge share and maintain consistency and best practices across the business.

Competencies of the role

You will ideally have spent a couple years out of university in an investment banking or similar transaction focused environment. The BESS asset class exhibits infrastructure investment characteristics, lending itself to project finance; a core competency of this role is deep understanding of project finance principles paired with ability to build and manage an infrastructure project finance model.

You should have excellent communication skills, collaborating with teams from diverse backgrounds and distilling complex financial concepts into clear decision-making frameworks and conclusions. The role involves supervising all the construction work executed by a contractor, provide guidance, consultation, and advice to ensure proper construction of BESS facilities.

Responsibilities of the role

Core Accounting:

· Complete month-end and year-end financial close and balance sheet reconciliations with support from the outsourced service provider.

· Manage the year-end audit with Group statutory auditors and liaise with Group finance to meet reporting deadlines.

· Ensure proper allocation of costs via POs/invoices to all cost centers and project cost codes.

· Review and finalize management accounts reports to agreed Group reporting deadlines in coordination with the APAC Head of Finance.

Project Costs and Reporting:

·Prepare monthly project actual spend for updating project cost reports.

·Manage securities (bank guarantees, security deposits, and parent company guarantees for the project).

Financial Planning:

·Prepare budget and monitor performance compared to the budget.

·Support cost center managers and project managers with budget and forecast tracking.

·Assist in preparing financial forecasts and projections.

Bank Account Management:

· Manage project bank accounts, including internet banking.

·Ensure payments are processed in accordance with the Group delegation of authority.

Loan Management:

·Manage loan repayment, information covenant, hedging payments/receipts, and communicate with the hedging provider.

·Prepare debt drawdown and withdrawal notices, including remaining costs to completion calculations.

·Provide hedge accounting for interest rate swap, FX hedge, and commodity hedge.

Tax Compliance:

·Ensure compliance with all Japanese corporate taxes.

Systems:

·Provide support for all system development activities and ensure localized ERP system meets local requirements.

Process Improvement:

· Drive process improvement projects and other ad hoc project work.

 Accountabilities:

·Provide comprehensive accounting and management reporting services supporting the activities and needs of the Japan business and the wider Eku Group.

·Ensure accurate and timely reporting from Japanese entities.
