Core Role as a Clinical Trials Pharmacy Technician: To obtain and maintain Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training. to apply principles of GCP in the management of clinical trials and work within the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trial) Regulations 2004 and EU directive relating to Clinical Trials, to communicate with Investigators, Research Nurses, Trust R&D, Sponsors, Clinical Research Associates and Pharmacy staff during the set-up and running of a clinical trial, to ensure clinical trial protocols and SOPs are followed during dispensing of clinical trial investigational medicinal products and other drugs included in the protocol, to order and receive in clinical trial drugs, process receipt paperwork and acknowledge receipt on IVRS (Electronic Medication Supply) systems, to check stock levels and expiry dates of clinical trial drugs and keep balance logs up to date, to assist with the packing down and re-labelling of clinical trial drugs if required, to assist with the preparation for monitoring meetings, audits and inspections, to maintain Clinical Trial files ensuring items can easily be located and are presentable, to process returned clinical trial drugs and ensure the paperwork is kept in order, to participate in the statutory temperature monitoring of clinical trial stocks, to assist with the destruction of clinical trial medication, to assist with the closedown and archiving of clinical trial files, to represent the Clinical Trials Team to update the dispensary staff at meetings, to liaise with Research Nurses to update them on trial progress, stock levels etc, to assist in the collection of data as requested by the Senior Clinical Trial Technician or Clinical Trial Pharmacists, to assist in maintaining financial records, including the generation of invoices, checking payments etc, to assist with general administration such as organising set up meetings etc and be a point of contact within the Clinical Trials Pharmacy Team, to maintain clinical trial filing systems and drug accountability documentation for clinical trials, to use the computer system and other information technology in all areas of Pharmacy. Additionally, you would be involved in supporting Clinical Trial Aseptic Unit: To participate in the day to day running of the CTASU in line with the rota system, to participate in safe systems of work and documentation of these, to undertake safe and accurate preparation of a wide range of aseptic products on a daily basis, including cytotoxics, epidurals, antibiotics, injectables, novel agents and monoclonal antibodies, to maintain personal expertise, skills and necessary knowledge of the technical aspects of aseptic and non-aseptic dispensing, to ensure products are prepared according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), assemble drugs and consumables required for preparation of aseptic products, accurately recording batch numbers and expiry dates, to be responsible for the accurate completion of product worksheets and labels, assigning batch numbers to aseptically prepared products, to accurately and safely label aseptically prepared products, to facilitate the quality assurance of products and to notify the Senior Aseptic Technician of any incidents and procedural deficiencies, to be responsible for ensuring finished products are packed prior to distribution to ensure the prompt and safe delivery, to ensure finished products are transported in the appropriate environment taking into account any physical & legal requirements, to be responsible for unpacking and receipt of deliveries, undertake regular expiry date checking to identify expired or short dated stock, to be responsible for monitoring drug stock and consumable levels and replenishing, to ensure that all equipment within CTASU is in good working order and serviced regularly, to participate in the clean room/isolator cleaning rota, to assist in environmental and physical monitoring of the CTASU, to be involved in the maintenance of departmental records including staff training, environmental monitoring, cleaning, maintenance logs and worksheets, where applicable to be involved in the delivery of drugs to clinical areas.

eTechnical / Clinical Oversee and be responsible for all of the work produced within the setting of the Maxillofacial Laboratory. Use judgement and analytical skills to interpret, understand and to assess suitability of requested work and then provide options where necessary. Offer expert opinion on current technological advances and their application to current or future practice. Liaise with senior clinical staff and undertake highly specialised complex Orthognathic Surgery planning and surgical splint construction for Maxillofacial Surgery. Including model planning and model surgery for mandibular maxillary and bi-maxillary procedures. Organising case conferencring between the post holder and orthodontic and maxillofacial consultants leading to the design and construction of splints, surgical wafers and other associated appliance for orthognathic surgery. Oversee and participate in the prosthetic restoration and management of patients with severe disfigurement following surgery or trauma. To design and manufacture appliances involved in the treatment for syndromic patients, particularly cleft lip and palate, patients with temporomandibular dysfunction and speech therapy techniques. To design and manufacture the complete highly complex range of fixed, removable and functional Orthodontic appliances, intra-oral and extra-oral attachments. To design and manufacture fixed/removable restorative dentistry including implant planning and provision. Undertake intra-nasal sectional impressions and subsequent manufacture of septal restorations/obturators for patients under general anaesthetic. Delivery of digital hub in for all referring hospitals in the BOB STP area including surgical planning and guide delivery for OMFS, Restorative Dentistry, ENT, Plastics and Craniofacial Surgery. This includes the design and delivery of cranioplasties, mid-face implants and orthognathic planning for complex surgical cases. Management and development of digital orthodontic service including model storage and digital surgical planning and case prototyping. Competent in the use of specialist equipment e.g. high speed grinding, trimming and polishing for prolonged periods with intense concentration and using high levels of eye hand co-ordination. Use highly developed skills of manual dexterity such as accurately bend and adapt specialist wires whilst working to very fine tolerances. Competent with a wide range of chemicals, specialist dental materials that require an understanding of the materials science of such products e.g. methylmethacrylate monomers and polymers. Will be required to lift weights, including and up to 25kg (with help if necessary). Over 25kg with the use of mechanised lifting equipment. This activity may happen up to 10 times a week for short periods. Be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods in restricted positions e.g. standing whilst casting impressions, trimming models, polishing appliances using machinery for grinding and polishing. Essential Accreditation by Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland. A minimum of two years post-accreditation experience. Clinical and Research Responsibilities: Inpatient and outpatient care of haematological cancer patients being treated as part of trials performed on the EPCTU and selected trials being run through the late phase trials team. The focus will be on lymphoma, CLL and myeloma trials although will work collaboratively with the other haematological malignancy trials fellows and cross cover would be expected. Co-ordination and execution of trial activities for EPCTU, including (but not limited to) study specific investigations, sample collection and handling, data collection, case record folder completion, maintenance of study documentation; Liaison with a laboratory group to gain familiarity with the endpoint assays associated with the trial. There also be opportunities to gain experience in performing laboratory techniques associated with a translational project, although the principal focus of the fellow will be on clinical aspects. Under supervision, to undertake the setting up of clinical trials, including protocol design, grant applications, regulatory and ethical submissions, liaison with clinical trials units and preparation of study specific documentation.
