This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a Full-time band 6 Occupational therapist to join our Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIIP) Service, working with young people experiencing a first episode of psychosis.

• To manage a defined caseload of clients within the Early Intervention Service, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions and record all interventions, and in line with relevant clinical pathway ( functional ) as outlined within the operational procedure.

This is a new and exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist with enthusiasm and interest in working with older people to join a friendly and supportive memory assessment service and play an active role in shaping the service offer for individuals with a diagnosed or suspected dementia.

The post offers opportunities to work within memory assessment (0.8WTE) and dementia crisis and prevention services (0.2WTE). The post holder will be conducting a range of psychological and neuropsychological assessments related to the diagnostic process for dementia. In addition, they will provide assessment, formulation and intervention for individuals with a diagnosis of dementia, and support the wider team in implementing the Newcastle model for behaviours that challenge in dementia, including providing training and consultation.

Please note we would consider a Band 7-8a preceptorship for a suitably experienced candidate.



Applicants will be able to demonstrate experience or a high level of enthusiasm/commitment to working with older people with or without dementia and/or conducting neuropsychological assessments/interventions. Experience of working within multidisciplinary environments will also be an advantage. The post holder will be required to complete or oversee service audit and evaluation projects and contribute to service development activities such as staff training. Post holders will need to contribute actively to team and multi-disciplinary working, so a high standard of written and verbal communication is required.

• REPs Level 3 Exercise Referral Qualification or equivalent; or
• Level 3 qualification in health improvement or promotion or public health or equivalent (e.g. City & Guilds Level 3 Health Trainer or equivalent); or
• Level 3 qualification in nutrition; or
• Level 3 Training qualification (e.g. PTTLs / Award in Education & Training); or
• Degree of equivalent in a relevant subject
• Experience of delivery group based health or physical activity or advice & guidance interventions.
• Driver licence and access to a car is essential

Desirable Attributes:

• An understanding of and interest in health-related physical activity, healthy eating and health-related behaviour change.
• Willingness to undertake evening and weekend work as required.

As an autonomous practitioner you will play a key part in the delivery of high-quality service provision that promotes and improves the mental health and well-being of children and young people, their families, and carers. In a school-based team you will provide direct intervention for young people presenting with mild/moderate mental health difficulties within professional practice guidelines and a structured supervision framework.

Within a systemic and holistic framework, you will undertake needs led, evidence based, skilled assessments and provide therapeutic interventions, ensuring this is done evidencing shared decision making and partnership working with children and young people, their families and carers.

As part of working together you will offer quality consultation and advise to schools and support schools in developing their Whole school Approach to mental health and emotional wellbeing. You will actively liaise and support robust partnership working arrangements between MHST and community partners and other key stakeholders involved with the child across agencies in order that an integrated package of care is developed, with supervision if required, you will provide a high level of generic skills and competencies and work towards development of areas of clinical expertise within the field of MHST complimenting other members of the team.

To assume responsibility for management of a defined caseload and exercise the highest standards of professional responsibility for providing therapeutic interventions to children, young people and their families/carers using specialist knowledge and evaluation of care programmes.

To provide consultation and advise to schools and colleges, signposting to community services where appropriate and supporting schools to provide emotional support to pupils.

To support schools and colleges develop emotionally healthy learning environments through developing their Whole School Approach to mental health and emotional wellbeing.
