Duties include, but are not limited to:
Clinical
- Conducting standardized psychological assessment of mental health conditions and cognitive functioning in older adults
- Conducting capacity evaluations for Veterans with neurodegenerative diseases to determine their ability to make informed decisions about issues such as health care, finances or the ability to live independently
- Providing a full range of therapeutic interventions including individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy and psycho-education classes that is sensitive to cultural, cognitive and age-related needs. Treatments will be adapted as needed to meet the needs of Veterans with cognitive changes, TBI and sensory changes
- Ensuring the care delivered is in the best interest of the Veteran by making treatment recommendations based on best available scientific evidence (e.g., evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, systematic reviews, meta-analyses)
- Ensuring care provided offers the Veteran the best opportunity for restoration of mental health
- Regularly using valid measurement instruments to monitor treatment progress, guide clinical decision making and guide treatment planning
- Providing motivational enhancement activities to prepare Veterans to participate in clinically appropriate care and engage in treatment
- Developing person-centered, culturally sensitive treatment plans to address mental health needs of patients
- Conducting evaluations to aid in the differential diagnosis of complex cases
- Complying with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients
Program Development, Process Improvement, Program Evaluation and Education - Assisting with process improvement activities related to geriatric psychology care
- Designing, implementing and evaluating services and processes for the geriatric patient population
- Providing education and consultation to providers on geriatric assessment, treatment and transitions of care; VA/DOD Clinical Practice Guidelines and the availability, effectiveness and utility of assessment tools and evidence-based psychotherapies for older adult population
- Providing education and consultation in the assessment of safety issues in Veterans including suicide risk, driving, firearms, falls and any signs of elder abuse, neglect or financial exploitation. Implementing process/outcome measures to evaluate the impact of mental health services on geriatric Veterans
Other Responsibilities - Participating on selection panels for Staff Psychologist position vacancies or other positions as assigned
- Attending annual training programs sponsored by the VISN, VAMC and other APA recognized training programs to enhance knowledge, skills and abilities in area of specialization
Work Schedule: Fulltime, Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
