This role is a fantastic opportunity for forward thinkers and innovators ready to influence our response to future challenges. You will play a crucial part in the new statutory requirement in the water industry: developing long-term wastewater service plans to address growth and climate change, known as DWMP (Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans).
As the DWMP Scenario Manager, you will optimise the DWMP investment plan and ensure its alignment with various planning frameworks. Leading a team of specialised experts, you will select the best interventions and balance the plan to meet multiple objectives through thorough catchment analysis, hydraulic modelling, and GIS mapping. You will serve as a Technical Lead in a core PMO (Project Management Office) team, guiding internal and external experts through the analytical phases of the DWMP.
In your role, you will be at the forefront of planning the direction of travel for the wastewater service. DWMP is carried out in all water companies, and you will regularly problem-solve supported by a community of peers across the industry. This is an excellent opportunity to build networks throughout the water sector.
You will be part of a dedicated Asset Strategy team within Thames Water, enhancing our capability and capacity for planning for the future.
What you’ll be doing as a DWMP Scenario Manager
- Oversee the development of investment scenarios for long-term wastewater plans.
- To work with stakeholders to deliver a best value plan.
- After the DWMP is delivered, support price review teams to align the DWMP plans with medium-term plans (PR29 price review).
- Develop an industry-leading plan balancing framework to meet the needs of the second iteration of DWMP over the next five years.
- Collaborate with asset and broader business planning teams to ensure outputs are understood and aligned with asset/corporate planning objectives.
This role will be hybrid, with Clearwater Court as the main base.
You must attend the office and sites as needed for the role and business. One to two days a week are typically office-based, but this depends on needs and local circumstances. Our working hours are 36 hours a week, Monday to Friday.
What you should bring to the role
- A degree in a numerate field or substantial role-specific knowledge and experience are preferred.
- Experience in data analytics, hydraulic modelling, program optimisation, or GIS mapping is preferred.
- Previous experience managing analytical teams.
- Experience with the balancing stages of planning and general price review experience are preferred.
- A background in the utility industry is required, ideally with knowledge of the water sector and experience working as a consultant in this field.
- Proven ability to communicate technical materials and analyses to non-technical stakeholders is essential.
