We are looking for a practitioner with experience of working in a setting where children and young people's mental health has been the primary focus. These posts are open to professionals with a variety of relevant backgrounds, but post holders must evidence meeting the essential criteria listed in the person specification within the job description.

This role would be suitable for a qualified EMHP or CWP with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience or any other mental health professional who has 2 years’ post qualification experience and/or experience in clinical supervision.

MHSTs build on the support already in place from school counsellors, nurses, educational psychologists, and the voluntary sector to treat those with mild to moderate mental health issues in school and will help children and young people with more severe needs to access the right support and provide a link to CAMHS.



The responsibilities/expectations of the Senior Mental Health Practitioner are:
• To effectively manage a caseload of CYP with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
• Provide caseload management and clinical supervision to Education Mental Health Practitioner's (EMHPs).
• To undertake further educational development as part of the role.
• To support in the delivery of evidence-based CBT.
• Working in partnership with schools/colleges and other educational settings.
• Provide support and training opportunities to a variety of team members and other professionals/trainees.
• To support and develop the interventions that can be delivered as part of the MHST within the education setting.
• Being able to work as part of a team and autonomously.
• Ensuring appropriate access to MHST support for CYP.
• Completion of thorough assessments, risk assessments, care planning and reviews.
• To ensure that there is accurate documentation, and that Routine Outcome Measures are completed.

You will provide rapid specialised assessment and treatment to patients who may present with complex physical and psychological care needs and initiate services to safely avoid unnecessary hospital admission.

The multidisciplinary IUCRS team works within the wider Emergency Department of Colchester Hospital and Northeast Essex community services and identifies patients that can, once deemed as not requiring acute admission, remain at home or facilitate a rapid discharge into an alternative community setting.

You will also identify patients requiring outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT) within the acute setting and support a seamless discharge to the community. You will also support the unplanned community nursing teams with the delivery of IV antibiotic therapy and all relevant nursing intervention within the community.

Act as a specialist resource for the integrated team, carrying out single assessments, and contributing to the development and delivery of the integrated care plan.

Develop programmes of specialist nursing activities, weighing options and delegating aspects of care as appropriate

Implement specialist aspects of the care plan, potentially acting as care coordinator and reviewing the plan on behalf of the integrated team.

Support patients with advice, information, persuasion and direction to community resources to encourage self-management and ongoing independence.

Provide support, training and advice to patients, parents and carers.

Manage the performance and oversee the work of more junior staff, assistants, students and volunteers

Manage the work of the team, deputising for more senior managers as required

This new service has been developed using national evidence that illustrates the benefits of community antibiotic services, facilitating early discharge from the acute sector to a community or other appropriate setting, supporting the prevention of hospital admission. You will also support identifying patients suitable to be transferred from the acute hospital to the community hospital.

You should be highly competent and confident in the initiation, administration and teaching of IV therapy. You will be able to make autonomous decisions around patient suitability for this pathway and support patients to self-administer as well and liaise with multidisciplinary team as appropriate. Good communication, leadership and management skills are essential.

You must hold a relevant qualification with community experience or other comparable/transferable skills. You should have experience in the management of junior staff and students. They should have a good understanding and knowledge of relevant legislation and treatment methods used in this specialist field. They should be adaptable to change and embrace innovation.

You will be working shifts and will be expected to work some weekends and bank holidays and nights. A car driver is essential.

The Integrated Sexual Health and HIV service provides over 20,000 Genitourinary Medicine appointments and 12,000 contraception appointments each year. The service is interlinked with the HIV service provided from Barking Community Hospital, which as a patient cohort of c.950. Many staff within the ISHS and the HIV service work across all service elements.

Pre coronavirus pandemic the service operated from four sites, with Barking Community Hospital as the main hub site operating 6 days per week, a Havering provision at Queen’s Hospital open three days per week and a Redbridge provision at Hainault Health Centre & Loxford Polyclinic open one day per week at each site. This role will be predominantly based at Barking Community Hospital.
