As well as being an everyday hero, as a Lifeguard you’ll be an important part of life here at the centre as you ensure that everyone can use the pool in safety and that they have access to everything they need to enjoy their visit. This will involve you providing customer care to people of all ages, supervising activities, maintaining high standards of cleanliness in the pool area, and ensuring the safe handling and set up of pool equipment. And of course, when needed – you’ll help to save lives.
Without you there can’t be any pool activity. But you won’t be working alone. Our leisure centre has a close knit and supportive team, all working towards providing an inclusive leisure hub for the entire community.
We share your passion for leisure, and we will offer a safe, fun, and professional working environment with excellent development opportunities. NPLQ Lifeguards at Serco Leisure have followed exciting career paths going on to be swimming teachers, duty managers or even contract managers, to name a few options! We will support you in your career path and you will also receive free gym membership for you and a family member across our fantastic leisure centres!
Serco manages these facilities on a day-to-day basis on behalf of the Trust.
What you’ll need to do the role
No previous Lifeguarding experience required, this role is open to anybody who has the desire to be a lifeguard and can meet the minimum requirements in a swim test.
To pass the swim test you must be able to perform the following:

Jump/dive into deep water
-
Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds (this is usually 2 lengths of the pool)
-
Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water (this is usually 8 lengths of the pool)
-
Tread water for 30 seconds
-
Surface dive to the floor of the pool (this is usually no deeper than 2.0m)
-
Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits
The NPLQ course will take place from 17th December
- 23rd December 9am-5pm at Quarry Leisure Centre, so please make sure you can commit to these dates before applying.
