The incumbent serves as a Visual Information Specialist with primary responsibilities in graphic design, audiovisual production, web content, social media, reproduction and desktop publishing for the West Palm Beach VA Healthcare System and its affiliates. The incumbent is responsible for editing, publishing, and monitoring submissions from facility contributors to ensure their grammatical and structural correctness as well as compliance with Federal, VA and Medical Center mandates, policies and procedures to include 508 compliance. This involves selecting the appropriate format or medium for execution, suggesting collateral for incorporation, designing layout, and converting the result to a finished product suitable for reproduction, and electronic or print distribution. The incumbent also coordinates, analyzes, and reports all visual media production data to the Chief of Medical Media Section.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Prepares the arrangement or layout for graphic design projects by acquiring enough information about the subject to present it accurately as well as aesthetically.
- Applies a technical knowledge and skill in laying out the work according to the specifications received.
- Meets with the author or project creator to learn the specific informational objectives of the project. Based upon these meetings, makes decisions and determines the most appropriate format and medium based on final reproduction, deadlines, requestor's use, available time and resources.
- Applies substantial subject matter knowledge in order to layout graphics and video products that not only depict but also interpret the meaning or purpose of the subject matter involved.
- Designs visual products such as photographs, illustrations, diagrams, graphs, models, slides, charts, brochures, newsletters, flyers, publications, exhibits, web content, social media content, live or video recorded video or lectures, multimedia computer presentations presented over the WWW, and other means of communication.
- Develops and designs visual products for high level briefings of officials within and outside the organization.
- Plans the technical details of, or produces, aesthetically composed visual products for dissemination by print and/or electronic means.
- May serve as the COR (Contract Officer Representative), OLCR (On-line Certifier), ADPAC (Computer representative), and/or Purchase Card Clerk.
- Produces and edits programs related to the mission of this medical center to include, but is not limited to: video production, broadcasting, video livestreaming, audio recording and photography.
- Performs public relations, commercial and patient video and/or photography.
- Responsible for hosting and maintenance of facility websites.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
