Forge Valley School is an 11-18 Academy sponsored by Tapton School Academy Trust. We are an Ofsted “Good” school with the ambition and capacity to improve further. The successful candidate will be required to teach Design & Technology to the full range of pupils at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. We are particularly seeking applicants with an excellent knowledge of teaching and learning techniques to imbed understanding around timbers, polymers and metals including CAD and CAM to join our successful Technology department. We believe this is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious and well-motivated teacher to join the school at this exciting time.Experience of teaching KS5 would be a distinct advantage.

This post would be an ideal first post for an ECT – our excellent ECT programme is further enhanced by support across the Academy Trust.

What skills and experience we're looking for

In the role of Teacher of Design Technology you will:

• carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with academy policies, under the direction of the Principal
• promote the achievement of high standards through effecting teaching and learning of Design Technology, including preparation, evaluation, and action planning
• model the vision and values of the academy
• be part of the team driving the development of the academy to become and remain an ‘outstanding’ academy
• receive and act on feedback to build on the strengths and improve personal performance within the academy systems
• contribute, where appropriate, to implementing policies and practice and to promote collective responsibility for their implementation •
• take into account and constantly reviewing academy contextual factors and prior attainment when planning and teaching lessons
• work in a cross-curricular way to support Design Technology across the academy in the use of active learning approaches to enrich curriculum and skills delivery
• recognise, promote, and celebrate diversity

Essential:
• A good degree in an appropriate discipline related to Design Technology (A/C)
• A teaching qualification together with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (A/C)
• A strong and secure subject knowledge in Design Technology up to GCSE (A/I)
• Recent and relevant teaching experience (A/I/R)
• Experience of assessment at key stage 3 and 4 (A/I/R)
• Awareness of the strategies available for improving the learning and achievement of all students (A/I)
• A good understanding of curriculum developments in Design Technology (A/I)
• Able to use a range of teaching and learning strategies (A/I)
• An understanding of how assessment for learning can improve student performance (A/I)
• Confidence in the use of standard computer packages and how these can be used to enhance student learning (A/I)
• Able to use student level data to raise standards (A/I)
• Able to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team (A/I)
• Enthusiasm for your subject area (A/I)
• Creative in problem solving together with willingness to take on and try new approaches and ideas (A/I)
• Ability to relate to students in a pleasant and sympathetic manner and to recognise potential safeguarding issues (A/I/R)
• Able to communicate both orally and in writing to students and their parents (A/I/R)
• Able to communicate high expectations to all students (A/I/R)
• Willingness to share good practice across the department and beyond (A/I/R)

Desirable:
• Strong ICT skills including SMART board or Promethean (A/I/R)
