The selectee will serve as a Personnel Security Specialist in the Office of Security, Personnel Security and Vetting Division. Typical work assignments include:

• Performing security duties as it relates to the Personnel Security Program. Providing technical assistance to applicable stakeholders regarding personnel security (i.e., security questionnaires, accounts, and verification/validation and resolution of personnel security clearance issues).
• Assisting with organizing and prioritizing voluminous amounts of information in a systematic approach by identifying information in an effective and efficient manner. Assisting senior specialists in maintaining accurate class rosters and supporting the Personnel Security Program.
• Using judgment and tact to explain sensitive issues and reconciles conflicting viewpoints with employees and supervisors.
• Utilizing systems to manage the processing of security clearances such as receipt of security documents, recording of security interview, authorization of polygraph (if required), initiation of background investigation, adjudication of investigation findings, accessing information and managing the process of contractors gaining access to various facilities and IT access.

• The incumbent facilitates major initiatives by providing subject matter expertise on asset valuation and program tools for the management of the National Capital Region’s real estate portfolio. Takes the lead role to ensure the development and execution of targeted program strategies. Maximizes and strengthens business line relationships by understanding and managing customer expectations and perceptions to integrate subject matter expertise into the regional PBS operations and recommends changes to existing procedures and processes that will enhance the service delivery.
• Obtains new business and facilitates the service delivery of existing business; ensures the coordination of planning and program implementation with other PBS Divisions. Oversees the maintenance of national and regional program databases.
• Addresses problems and concerns raised by Client Delivery staff on behalf of customer agencies. Investigates and oversees the investigation of source of problems and validates findings. Recommends corrective action, and resolves to the mutual benefits and satisfaction of all parties involved.
• Supervises staff assigned to the Division in the performance of work geared toward supporting and validating client agency project management requirements. This includes: establishes and plans work schedules for subordinates; establishes short and long term priorities and objectives; evaluates employee work performance; and provides guidance, advice, and counsels on all performance and personnel matters regarding branch employees. Handles disciplinary actions when necessary. Reviews and approves or denies leave requests. 

This position is assigned to the office of the Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center (DC VAMC). The incumbent supports the Nursing Education & Research service in accomplishing the mission and goals of the medical center and nursing service. The incumbent provides program support functions of Nursing Education & Research under the direction of the service chief nurse and must have sufficient knowledge of the service to effectively support the management of the administrative requirements of Nursing Education & Research. The incumbent coordinates activities with other members of the nursing service support staff.
