Duties and Responsibilities.

Reporting to the Home Manager the successful applicant will be an organised and helpful leader in a busy kitchen environment. You will be responsible for organising, preparing, and serving appetising and freshly produced food, whilst maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and health and safety.

Key to your success in this role will be your experience within the food industry, along with the ability to be part of a strong team in the kitchen. Experience in a care setting would be an advantage but not essential.

What are we looking for?

Basic or Intermediate Food Hygiene certificate
Knowledge of textured/modified diets would be an advantage

As a Chef at Sodexo in Hereford Nuffield Hospital​, HR1 1DF, you will work under the guidance of the head chef and be responsible for managing a section of the kitchen, ensuring that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards. You will have a passion for cooking and a desire to learn and grow as a culinary professional. What you’ll do:

• Prepare and cook dishes according to recipes and specifications
• Assist in menu planning and recipe development
• Comply with all Company and hospital policies and procedures, and statutory regulations, including health and safety, safe working practices, hygiene, cleanliness, fire, COSHH.
• Ensure the kitchen is clean and organised

What you bring:

• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent at least 2 years plus working as a chef
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent culinary skills and a passion for cooking
• Ability to communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect

Job Description

• Dishwashing – Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment either by hand or using industrial dishwashers
• Kitchen Cleanliness – Clean and sanitise kitchen surfaces, countertops, and food preparation areas. Empty rubbish bins and ensure proper disposal of waste materials
• Food Preparation – Assist chefs and cooks with basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling, chopping, and slicing ingredients
• Inventory Management – Assist in receiving, storing, and organising kitchen supplies and ingredients
• Compliance with Health and safety – maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen ensuring equipment is in good working order
• Working hours - Predominantly Monday - Friday but must be flexible to working evenings and weekends on occasions when required. Overtime available when agreed with General manager

Qualifications

• No formal education is required, but a high school diploma or equivalent may be preferred
• Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects
• Good attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions
• Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and sanitation practices is a plus
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
