1. To carry and prioritise own patient caseload and other ongoing tasks, allocating appropriate work to technical instructors and students.

To perform specialist therapy assessment of patients with diverse and complex presentations, using advanced clinical reasoning skills to analyse, interpret and make judgements on complex facts or situations, to provide specialised packages of care, treatment and advice to patients, based on sound knowledge of evidence based practice and the range of treatment options and/or adaptive techniques and/or equipment provision, and/or care services.

3. To attend consultant outpatients clinics and to assess and treat patients as necessary.

5. To communicate sensitively and reassuringly complex condition and functional risk/limitation related information to patients/carers, to gain consent to and co-operation in assessment and treatment, and in giving specialist advice to patients/carers regarding their options for ongoing care needs. Being aware at all times of the sensitive nature of some recommendations, and the potential for patients/carers to have special communication needs resulting in barriers to understanding.

6. Attend multi-disciplinary meetings as the hand therapist representative for individual patients, to inform complex discussions, gain a full range of information prior to planning patient centred goals, analyse options for meeting goals and participate in the clinical decision making process and development of comprehensive MDT plans for discharge.

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic team based at Epsom & St Helier Hospital as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

The job plan consists of elective spinal clinics, elective hand clinics, general fracture clinics, elective operating support for spine and hands, trauma and on-calls.

The post is designed to provide you with a thorough and comprehensive approach to surgical management of patients. The educational methods include assessment of patients in clinics, pre-operative planning sessions, rounds and direct surgical experience.

Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the specialty and referred to the specialty.

Locally, the post holder will lead on optimising and strengthening the role and responsibility of nurses within the service, ensuring nursing workforce resilience and succession planning.

The Associate Director of Nursing will support the Divisional Director of Nursing at a strategic and operational level and work together to cover the Inpatient/Outpatient Medicine with a strong focus on planned care element in medicine. You will provide visible professional nursing supporting our team of Clinical Nurse Specialists and Advanced Practitioners and support teams to achieve the implementation of the Trusts vision and key priorities.










Main duties of the job
• The post holder will lead and support specific portfolios/projects to ensure quality of care, excellent patient experience whilst maintaining financial sustainability and management. They will contribute to and ensure delivery of strategic and operational objectives set by the Trust and Divisional Board.
• The post holder will support the Divisional Director of Nursing in the development of the strategic direction for the Division, working with the Divisional Senior team to support, influence and guide the development and delivery of excellent nursing care.
• The post holder will provide clinical leadership which inspires, motivates and empowers nurses within the Division. In conjunction with the DDN the post holder will ensure that there is optimal deployment of nursing and midwifery staff to ensure that high quality patient care is delivered and monitored.
• The post holder will lead delegated work streams and working in partnership with the Directorate Nursing teams to ensure compliance with the Trust’s strategic direction and the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professional strategy and direction.
• The post holder will support the Divisional Director of Nursing in Trust wide developments and support of service transformation to meet the changing needs of staff, patients and relevant stakeholders. and guide the development and delivery of excellent nursing care.

The Department of Anaesthetics is a friendly and supportive one. The candidate will initially be expected to work at the St Helier site. The job plan will include 10 Programmed Activities including 1 SPA.There will be no initial on-call commitment but participation in the 1:12 consultant on-call rota or 1:6 weekend trauma lists will be expected after an initial period of settling into the role. The successful candidate must be dedicated to the pursuit of excellence, always placing the patient first.
