The incumbent must be a Medical Technologist able to work independently and manage multiple assignments in an efficient and accurate manner. The major duties include serving as the technical expert in the Hematology section, preparing schedules and workstation rosters, monitoring and reporting on QC and QM activities, implementing and monitoring annual PI programs, coordinating lab procedures in other related departments and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) and OPCs, implementing and monitoring a laboratory education program with the assistance of the Lab Manager, assuring that all procedure manuals remain up to date, ordering supplies and monitoring standing orders. The Supervisory Medical Technologist must maintain all certifications required of a Medical Technologist and maintain knowledge and skills in all areas of the laboratory.
Some of the position functions are:
- Implement and coordinate quality control and proficiency testing programs in the Hematology laboratory section.
- Plans, implements, and coordinates preventative maintenance programs and reviews documentation within the Hematology laboratory section.
- Assures compliance with quality control and proficiency testing programs, safety standards within the Hematology laboratory section.
- Acts as the technical supervisor for personnel, quality control, records control, proficiency testing, inspection and accreditation, anti performance of ordered laboratory procedures within the Hematology laboratory section.
- Coordinates with the Chief Medical Technologist and pathologist all methods utilized within the Hematology laboratory section.
- Evaluates and interprets the results to determine if the data obtained are complete and valid.
- Performs statistical analysis on qualify control and quality assurance data collected to identify, document, and take corrective action.
- Implements and monitors protocols for quality assurance, proficiency testing, linearity, instrument maintenance, and user competency for all testing within the Hematology laboratory section.
- Develops operating procedures for methods and accompanying explanatory materials for inclusion with the laboratory procedure manual.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
